Emergency Response Training at Central Elementary

On Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., the Sidney Police Department, local emergency responders, and Central Elementary staff will participate in an emergency response training exercise at Central Elementary following student dismissal.

This training is part of an ongoing partnership between Sidney Public Schools and local emergency services to strengthen school safety and improve our coordinated response capabilities.

Last year, faculty from Sidney Public Schools and emergency responders came together at the high school and middle school to establish a foundation for school emergency preparedness. That training focused on building a shared understanding of response procedures and developing a unified approach to school safety.

This year's training marks Phase 2 of that effort. Rather than focusing on schools as a whole, we are now evaluating each building individually. This allows us to address the specific needs of each school's staff and student population while considering unique factors such as building layout, geographic location, and access challenges.

Our goal is not simply to be prepared to respond when an emergency occurs. Our goal is to proactively identify weaknesses, evaluate policies and procedures, strengthen partnerships, and continuously improve our response capabilities before they are ever needed.

We do not want to simply meet the standard. We want to raise the standard and set the example for what school safety preparedness should look like.
Community members may notice an increased presence of emergency vehicles and personnel at Central Elementary during the training. This is a planned exercise, and there is no emergency.

We appreciate the continued support and cooperation of Sidney Public Schools, our emergency response partners, and the community as we work together to provide the safest possible learning environment for our children.
