Its now roughly a month away from the Fly-in, so that means its time to put out the call for volunteers to run this thing. If you have a couple of hours of free time on July 18 or 19, let us know.

High schoolers, if you need to do community service for graduation requirements, This is the place to get it done.

So, you might see it on here someplace that the Shiocton Airport is a 501(C)(3) charitable organization. Yes we is. As far as we know, we are the only stand-alone airport in these United States that the IRS has thus classified as such. There may be airports out there attached to/owned by other 501(C)(3) entities, but as far as an airport by itsself, we're all there is, and damn proud of it.

One of the criteria to be what we are is to have a recognized educational component, and for this, we team up each & every year with the Shiocton School District and specifically, the 5th graders. The kids spend an afternoon at the airport and in the short couple of hours we have them here, we try to get as much aviation knowledge into them as possible.

This isn't a recently started endeavor on our part, we here at the airport have been doing this for many years. Going through airport archives these past few days, I found this tidbit from September 2010.
