Let's get the ball rolling on select prizes that can be won on the 2026 Shiocton Flyers Club raffle.

First up is something we here at the airport have been talking about putting on the ticket for several years. Its listed on the ticket as a Big Green Egg Grill but is actually black in color. Thanks to Sam & Julie Sommers for their donation.

As always, we here at the airport live for the day when a grill/griddle/smoker winner invites the Flyers Club members to a taste testing. We will be more than happy to supply the beverages. 🍻

And for the record, this is charcoal only.

I've been asked a couple times why the band signs from last year are still hanging. Well, remember it got even more wet last year immediately after the Fly-in, then it rained more, then it got cold, then it rained more, then it thawed out, then we had a blizzard and finally it got really wet. One of these days....

In the meantime, because I had no guarantee things would dry out enough to get last year's band signs down in time for a re-new, I've done the following:

Last week our posters and raffle tickets arrived for this year's Fly-in. I decided the weekend would be a push to get mowers done, so I didn't get out & about with posters or tickets. I do see a couple of posters up in town so its just a matter of time before the green tickets start showing up.

I'm also late on taking pictures of prizes and starting to post those. The trailer on the ticket and a couple of the other major prizes have been put together but have yet to get pictures of them. Some prizes arrived early and were here at the airport when the flood hit and were relocated to higher ground.

Don't know if anyone noticed, but this year's posters have an updated look to them. What they were going to be vs. a couple of changes.

Greetings on this seemingly first day of summer/thunderstormy evening. Things have been pretty busy here on the ranch these past few weeks.

Glad to say the heavy mower maintenance is largely done for the year (hopefully). The 2 big Jacobsen mowers were marooned in a flooded hangar and it took a couple of weeks for things to dry out enough to get them into the airport shop. So, things started on them about a month late. Both mowers had transmission gearboxes full of water to be dealt with. The second big Jake mower had the front deck in the 'down' position during the flood and so under water. I had to bar the deck to break it loose, so OK, now I know why I had built-up all those mower spindles several years ago. A few other bearings and some replaced metal on the deck and basically ready to roll.

Back to the first big Jake and ready to go through that one. Back in January I had rebuilt all the gauge wheel assemblies for the decks. Now all the deck bushings for those were replaced and the gauge wheels assemblies were then installed. And shazam! Along with another week of work, ready to roll!

These past couple of days were spend washing the 4 airport mowers. Everything is hydraulic and so, always oil on everything whether it leaks or not. And dirt. And grass, And dandelion fuzz. And about that time an oil leak and the collection of crap starts anew. 3 gallons of purple cleaner and 3,000psi of water pressure and things look pretty clean. Maybe now in my retired state of life, I should wash those things every year instead of twice a decade. I wonder if there's a steam cleaner in my future.... 😎
