Today we went to Savannah, GA. We took a “hop on, hop off” tour which was very good. Ended up being way too hot so we called it a day and headed back to the trailer.

Yesterday we went to MCRD (Marine Corps Recruit Depot) Parris Island to see a recruit graduation. Even though Spencer retired from the Marines and had served as a DI (Drill Instructor) on Parris Island, I (Tammy) had never seen a graduation. We didn’t know anyone graduating but it was still a wonderful experience.

Being South Carolina, of course it had to rain during the ceremony and everyone was pretty soaked. Spencer had gone to the car to get the umbrella and there was a nice lady sitting just in front of me watching her niece graduate. I held the umbrella over both of us and when it was done ran with her to see her niece, who was full of hugs for everyone, including a lady she didn’t even know!

After the ceremony we drove around Parris Island to see the changes since we were last there in 2018. There were a lot and Spencer got confused on where we were a couple of times but we hit all the high spots, including the museum, which to our surprise we ran into Jason and Nicholas Dean. Jason had been stationed at Camp Pendleton and lived next door to us, with his first wife and sons, Nicholas and Braeden. Both boys ended up joing the Marines and to our surprise, Nicholas was stationed at Parris Island and had just been promoted that morning to Staff Sergeant (SSgt). It was so nice to run into them.

We left Parris Island and headed to MCAS (Marine Corps Air Station) Beaufort which is the last duty station he had before we met while he was being stationed at Camp Pendleton. It was fun to see the hanger he worked out of and drive around the base. I was rewarded with jets taking off from the air station and got a couple of cool pictures!

Well, sort of a fail and more of a win. We knew the Blue Angels were going to be practicing today in Pensacola and everything I (Tammy) was seeing was you could watch them from Pensacola Beach. We made arrangements for Maggie at Doggie Dogcare, Spencer made breakfast sandwiches and off we went. We were there nice and early thinking we had beat the crowds. Well…we did beat the crowds and could hear the Angles take off and saw them off in the far distance. While they didn’t fly over the beach, we still had a GREAT time at the beach. The sand is white and feels good on the feet, the water was so nice (we just weren’t smart enough to wear our swimsuits or take the beach bag, FAIL). All in all it was still great and I know the allure now!

So today we went to the Pensacola Lighthouse and Keepers House. It was 177 stairs to the top of the lighthouse (and yes, Spencer, the same number down, IYKYK). It was very interesting and the views at the top were GREAT! The picture with the two water towers are where the Blue Angels stay (Sherman Field) when they are in Pensacola.
