Before the world knew her name, she was just a little girl from Sevierville with a heart full of dreams.

The Red’s Cafe mural in downtown Sevierville captures a sweet piece of that childhood. Dolly’s father, Lee Parton, was a regular at the original Red’s Cafe, and it was here that he treated young Dolly to her very first hamburger.

Red’s opened in 1946, the same year Dolly was born, and became part of the fabric of her early years in Sevierville. Today, this beautiful mural on Bruce Street keeps that little piece of hometown history alive.

This is what a lifetime of loving people looks like when that love comes home. 💗

Dolly spent her life giving joy, encouragement, generosity, and kindness so freely. Flowers and messages from those who loved her surrounded her statue here in Sevierville before being donated to the Dolly Parton Children’s Hospital and Random Acts of Flowers. Those heartfelt gifts were able to go on to bless others.

It is a beautiful and deeply moving tribute to a hometown girl who became beloved around the world.

On May 3, 1987, Dolly Parton returned home to Sevierville for the dedication of a statue created in her honor.

Sculpted by local artist Jim Gray and funded through the generosity of the people of Sevier County, the bronze statue was placed on the lawn of the Sevier County Courthouse in the heart of Dolly’s hometown. It depicts a young, barefoot Dolly sitting on a Smoky Mountain rock with her guitar, a tribute not simply to the superstar she became, but to the mountain girl and musician who began dreaming here.

This photo captures Dolly at the dedication, surrounded by the hometown community that came together to honor her.

Of all the accolades Dolly would receive throughout her extraordinary career, she considered this one of the most meaningful. She later said, “One of the best things that ever happened to me in my whole career is the statue of me in the courthouse yard in Sevierville.”

"The sweetest gift is a gift twice given." - Dolly Parton
In the spirit of Dolly's generosity, flowers placed in her memory at the Dolly Parton statue have been donated to Random Acts of Flowers, an organization that makes bouquets for people in need. The balloons are headed to cheer up young patients at Dolly Parton Children's Hospital. The cards, gifts, and mementos have been saved and will be sent to the family.

Dolly Parton was universally loved, and here in Sevierville, we feel that so deeply. The outpouring of love for her has been truly breathtaking to see.

Today, people gathered at Dolly’s statue in front of the Courthouse to show their love and admiration for her with flowers, balloons, gifts, and handmade cards. The Pines Downtown, where Dolly played her first paid performance, hung a pink ribbon in her honor. Local artist Chelsea Adkins created a beautiful mural for Dolly on Ole Smoky’s storefront window. Red’s Soda Fountain is donating proceeds from all Rainbow Sprinkle sales now through Sunday to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

Dolly’s family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor her donate directly to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

Our hearts are broken, but we are so grateful that Dolly called our little mountain town home. She will always be part of what makes Sevierville such a special place. 💗

Today, Sevierville mourns the loss of our hometown girl, Dolly Parton.

From humble beginnings here in the mountains of East Tennessee, Dolly went on to become a light to the entire world. Through her music, her generosity, her faith, her humor, and her extraordinary heart, she brought joy to millions and showed us all just how much good one person can put into the world.

She became an icon. A legend. A dreamer who inspired generations of people to dream a little bigger themselves. But through it all, she never forgot where she came from.

We will forever be proud that Dolly’s remarkable story began here, in Sevierville. Her light reached every corner of the world, but these mountains were always home.

There will never be another Dolly.

Today, our hearts are with her family, her loved ones, and the countless people around the world who loved her.

Thank you, Dolly, for the music, the laughter, the generosity, and the love. Thank you for making the world brighter simply by being in it.

Your hometown will always love you. 🤍
