Not every summer vacation has to be a week long affair, sometimes you only have a long weekend and these destinations are perfect for that!

Think oceanfront mornings in Maine, long wine country lunches in Napa, lake days in Tahoe, and historic boutique hotels that become part of the trip itself.

These are the kinds of stays I love building summer itineraries around — places with a strong sense of place, beautiful scenery, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to slow down and stay awhile, even if a while is only a few days…

Somewhere along the way, people started treating summer travel like a competition to see who could tolerate the most heat.

Crowded beaches.
100° days.
Running from one air-conditioned building to the next.

But lately?
More people are asking for trips that actually feel good.

Cool mornings.
Windows open at night.
Long days outside without feeling exhausted by the weather.

That’s why “coolcations” are having such a moment right now — and honestly, I get it.

Places like Banff, Norway, Iceland, and the Swiss Alps in the summer feel refreshing in every possible way.

More nature.
Less overheating.
And trips where you actually enjoy being outside again.

If your ideal summer sounds more like mountain air and cozy evenings than beach crowds and humidity…
