Did you know that women's participation in the Mexican maritime industry remains below 20%, despite the growth of foreign trade and logistics expansion linked to ports and global supply chains?
This topic was one of many covered as part of the “Women in the Maritime Sector Forum: Leadership, Contribution and Future of the Industry,” organized by Cosco Shipping Lines Mexico. Hosted on May 18 at the Instituto de Investigaciones Jurídicas, UNAM, female directors, academics, and sector representatives gathered to study women’s participation in the maritime-port sector and discuss gender equality in this strategic industry.
The hybrid event featured in-person and virtual participation from prominent organizations and institutions, including Asociación Mexicana de Agentes Navieros, Asipona Manzanillo - Administración del Sistema Portuario Nacional, Women's International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA México), and Universidad Veracruzana, which contributed valuable perspectives on the challenges of and opportunities to strengthen female inclusion in the maritime industry. 🚢💁♀️
The key takeaway? As demand for specialized talent in the global maritime industry continues to grow, the professional development of the next generation of women leaders depends greatly on the support, mentorship, and guidance of executives and industry experts already in decision-making roles.
