🚨 Team ASA 103 is on their way to Alaska. 🚨
Starting on Sunday, they're racing 750 miles from Port Townsend, Washington to Alaska in one of the toughest endurance sailing races on the planet: The Race To Alaska
The crew - Jay Bruno, Jean Champagne, and Ben Delisa - are taking on the challenge aboard their 20-foot Santana 20, Piece of Ship. The boat has quite a story of its own: after surviving a near hull-and-deck separation in a previous life, the team rebuilt and reinforced it, turning a handshake boat trade into a serious race contender.
The R2AK course takes teams through remote wilderness, powerful tidal rapids, shipping lanes and some of the most challenging waters in the Pacific Northwest.
Jay, Jean, and Ben met at an ASA 103 class here at SSC. They sail year-round, train in rough Puget Sound conditions whenever they can find them and have spent countless hours preparing both themselves and their boat for the unknowns ahead.
We're proud to have Team ASA 103 representing Seattle Sailing Club in this incredible adventure.
