She didn’t just witness sailing history. She was part of it.

Join us for a special Crew Social with Stephanie Kerr, a member of Mighty Mary, the groundbreaking all-women’s team that competed for the America’s Cup in 1995.

Stephanie’s story reaches well beyond the water. She’s a national champion in Olympic-style weightlifting, has coached strength and conditioning at the Division I level and built a career studying and teaching human performance.

Then came the opportunity to join a team that would challenge expectations on one of sailing’s biggest stages.

On Thursday, September 10th at 5:30 PM, SSC will host Stephanie, who will be sharing what it was actually like to be part of Mighty Mary and that moment in sailing history.
Come hear the story from someone who lived it.

Sometimes the hardest part of sailing isn’t learning to sail. It’s finding your people to sail with.

Sistership Sails are about making that part easier.

Come spend a few hours on the water with other women who want to sail, learn, build confidence and meet more people in the Seattle sailing community. You don’t need to show up with a crew or feel like you have everything figured out. The whole point is getting out there together.

Our October 4th sail is coming up first, with two more chances to join us this fall:

⛵ October 17 | 10 AM–2 PM ⛵ October 18 | 10 AM–2 PM

What happens when an all-women’s sailing team takes on one of the biggest names in America’s Cup history? ⛵

Join us for a special Crew Social on Thursday, September 10 at 5:30 PM with guest Stephanie Kerr, who’ll share her firsthand experience as part of Mighty Mary, the first all-women’s team to compete for the America’s Cup.

In 1995, Mighty Mary made history when they defeated Stars & Stripes, helmed by four-time America’s Cup winner Dennis Conner, before a controversial decision changed the outcome.

Stephanie will take us behind the scenes of that incredible chapter in sailing history and give us a preview of the new documentary telling their story, directed by Mary Mazzio and narrated by Hugh Jackman and Elizabeth Banks.

🎬 The documentary comes to AMC Pacific Place on September 11.

Our Crew Social is open to the public, so bring your friends and family and come hear the story from someone who was there.

SSC SPOTLIGHT ⛵ Captain Shyah Miller

Wondering where Captain Shyah has been this season? She’s had a pretty good excuse.

Shyah spent three months working as a deckhand aboard SV Sea Dragon, a 72-foot expedition sailing yacht originally built for the Global Challenge Race. She sailed 3,273 nautical miles from Key West to Saint Pierre and Miquelon, with stops in Bermuda, Charleston, New York, Newport, Halifax and more.

“I love not carrying my phone everywhere, seeing rainbows in the spray and the fiery burn in my arms after grinding the headsail through a tack. I love figuring out how to be more efficient, improving on who I was the day before and learning constantly.”

From offshore passages to puffins, whales and a dockside welcome of warm croissants in Saint Pierre, it was quite the adventure.

We’re excited to have Captain Shyah back at SSC and bringing a few more sea miles and stories with her. ⛵
