Rethink the Link to West Seattle We want Sound Transit to adopt the No Build Alternative, as described in their DEIS. Hundreds of homes and businesses will be demolished.

"Rethink the Link" advocates are West Seattle residents concerned about the impact Sound Transit's proposed light rail project will have on our community. Irreparable damage will be done to the Pigeon Point ecosystem, threatening wildlife, including a Federally protected heron rookery, and removing acres of tree canopy. The project also threatens Tribal Treaty protections. Construction of this pro

ject will take more than 6 years, closing streets in the business district, and limiting access to the West Seattle Bridge. We want the No Build Alternative, as described in Sound Transit's Draft Environmental Impact Statement, to be examined thoroughly before a final Environmental Impact Statement is released, and properties are taken via eminent domain. No Build does not mean "do nothing." It means continuing with transit projects already in progress and approved by voters in our neighborhood. In April of last year, the West Seattle Chamber of Commerce hosted this meeting with Sound Transit and business owners who may be affected by light rail. Since then, preferred alternatives have been in a state of flux and the timeline has moved.

The reason to watch this, though, is to hear the answers these business owners were given about relocation costs, timing of moves, and whether there will be any compensation for loss of business.

Questions start at about 20 minutes; compensation discussion starts around 30 minutes; from 33 minutes on Jordan Crowley of Alki Beach Academy starts asking his "hard questions." The video ends with Kandie Jennings, owner of Tom's Automotive, summing up the frustrations business owners have with this process.
