The view is just a bonus.

There’s a lot happening in the cockpit during flight training—putting knowledge into practice, building skills and learning to make decisions in real time.

Every flight is another opportunity to learn.

Getting to do it above the clouds? That part isn't bad either.

Learning to fly happens both on the ground and in the air. ✈️

Ground school gives student pilots a baseline understanding of the fundamentals—from weather and airspace to navigation, aircraft systems and regulations.

Flight training is where those concepts become real. Students get to experience what they’ve learned firsthand and begin connecting their knowledge on the ground with what’s happening in the airplane.

Both are important parts of learning to fly: building the knowledge first, then putting it into practice.

Ground school helps you understand it. Flight training lets you experience it.

How long has learning to fly been on your bucket list? ✈️

Researchers have identified what they call a “bucket list effect”—the tendency to put off meaningful experiences during busy seasons of life, expecting we’ll get to them when we have more time.

For a lot of aspiring pilots, learning to fly can spend years in that “someday” category. Work, family and responsibilities have a way of filling the calendar.

The good news? Flight training doesn’t have to happen on someone else’s timeline. We can build training around your schedule and your goals—whether you want to move through it aggressively or take it at a pace that fits your life.

Eventually, someday needs a plan.

Maybe it’s time to make a flight plan. ✈️

Not every classroom has a view like this. ✈️

One of the best parts of flight training? A lot of the learning happens right here.

In the airplane. Headset on. Learning alongside an instructor and putting what you've studied into practice.

We might be biased, but it's a pretty great classroom.

Aviation Archives ✈️ | Inside the cockpit: 1929

Nearly a century separates this cockpit from the technology student pilots learn with today.

This photograph, taken in 1929, shows the cockpit of a Boeing Model 80-A. Individual instruments, switches and controls filled the flight deck—a striking contrast to the integrated digital displays found in many modern aircraft.

The technology has evolved tremendously, but pilots still need to understand the information their instruments are giving them. Airspeed, altitude, aircraft attitude and heading remain fundamental pieces of information pilots use to understand and control the aircraft.

Today, our flight students train in a Cessna 172 equipped with a modern glass cockpit, learning how to interpret that information and put it to use in the air.

Photographs like this are a pretty remarkable way to see just how far aviation has come.

Ever wondered what it takes to fly an airplane? There's one way to find out. ✈️

A Discovery Flight gives you the chance to experience what learning to fly is actually like—with an FAA-certified instructor beside you every step of the way.

You'll start on the ground with an introduction to the aircraft and basic safety information before getting familiar with the cockpit, instruments and controls.

Then comes the part you've been waiting for: once you're airborne, you'll have the opportunity to take the controls under your instructor's guidance and experience the basics of flying for yourself.

After landing, you'll have time to talk with your instructor, ask questions and learn what continuing your flight training could look like.
