He was there since I first remember being alive. Always just a short walk away. His door was always unlocked unless it was bed time, and sure enough you’d walk in the door and there he sat in his chair. It was always set right next to the fireplace, right where we’d all run up to get a handshake and then a hug. He’d always ask what you had going on that day, or how your parents were doing, but he never talked to you as if you were a kid.
He was my fishing buddy sometimes, he was my driving instructor and he was my boss too. During summer I’d work with him installing security bars on windows and doors. He taught me how to be a helper, and how to anticipate what’s happening next. “You want me to do it for you?” Was a phrase he made me hate, cause if he needed to do it for me, then why was I there? He helped shape me into who I am today.
“If you’re gonna do it, do it right”… I try everyday Pawpaw… just want to make you proud. Pride like I saw every time I came over to show him my new toy, or something I made… You’d have sworn I had cured cancer. He really made every accomplishment seem Medal of Honor worthy.
He never let me down, and always held me up… The world is s**t without him…
