Here at Original Soo Locks Boat Tours we are proud to be part of the Interlake Steamship Family.
Beginning in 1934, three generations of the Welch Family provided historic, family-friendly tours to locals and visitors alike. When we joined the Interlake Steamship Company in 2022, we were thrilled to continue our time-honored tradition of being a family-owned company. Mark Barker, President of Interlake Maritime Services, has over 50 years of family history here in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. We are pleased to announce that the iconic orange stripe and legendary Interlake Steamship Co. name now beautifully showcases our tour boats! This new look honors our shared dedication to the Great Lakes and our deep, family roots right here in Sault Ste. Marie. Interlake Steamship Company and Original Soo Locks Boat Tours share a lifelong dedication to safeguarding this maritime heritage.

🦅 Look who was watching over the St. Marys River today!

Guests aboard our tour had the incredible opportunity to see a majestic bald eagle perched high atop the historic Cloverland Electric Cooperative Hydroelectric Plant.

From massive Great Lakes freighters and the engineering wonder of the Soo Locks to breathtaking scenery and unexpected wildlife encounters, every cruise offers something different. Moments like this are what make exploring the St. Marys River with us so unforgettable!

It is a day to break away from your normal routine, be spontaneous, buy a treat for a stranger, send a surprise gift, or call an old friend. It was created by Joseph J. Goodwin of Los Gatos, California, in the late 1950s.

Join us for the Fall Boatnerd Sunset Cruise, one of the most fun maritime adventures on the Great Lakes! With a boat full of fellow Boatnerds, you never know what freighters we might see, what stories we’ll hear, or what unforgettable memories we’ll make together.

Enjoy up-close freighter viewing surrounded by beautiful autumn colors, maritime stories and Q&A, light appetizers, pizza, soft drinks, games, local prizes, and giveaways! Our heated main cabin will keep you comfortable, while topside viewing offers incredible opportunities for fall photography and evening ship spotting along the St. Marys River.
