One of the best sandwiches we have ever had! Katz’s Deli is worth the trip. We took the #6 train downtown to 2nd Ave and walked the 4 blocks. Not bad at all for this Senior traveler.

My husband and I are total Foodies! When we travel we always search for some of the most notable dining spots. New York City is packed with well known foods so there was a lot to choose from. Traditional NY Delicatessens really need to be experienced! One of the oldest and most respected of these is KATZ’s Delicatessen. You know the scene from the movie in when Harry Met Sally.. that place. Be prepared for a crowd. Even at 3pm the line was down the block but, it was entirely worth it. Their famous Hot Pastrami on Rye was HUGE! We easily could have shared one. But Wow! I only have one thing to say…GO!!!

The view of the NYC skyline from the Brooklyn Bridge. The only spot that you can see the Statue of Liberty, the Freedom Tower and the Empire State Building from one place. Amazing!

Walking the Brooklyn Bridge from City Hall in lower Manhattan to Bridge Park in Brooklyn. Once in Brooklyn be sure to check out the Marvelous shops and dining options. We enjoyed some cappuccino and pastries and used the clean and accessible Rest Rooms at the Time Out Market. After walking around the market we stopped for an iconic photo-op of the Empire State Building through the arch of the Manhattan Bridge before crossing again into Manhattan. The trip is easy but a bit long with no places to sit, so keep that in mind. Despite this, it was a truly memorable experience!

It’s always fun to check off something on your Bucket List. When traveling by Subway in any major city, be sure to check for accessibility of you are mobility challenged. While using the NYC Subway we had a very positive experience. Everything is clearly marked and the MTA App made finding the right lines to take really easy.
Remember, in Manhattan if you are traveling Uptown the street numbers get higher. Downtown they naturally go down. Avenues go from East to West from low to high. Knowing these key facts makes it simple to maneuver around. Today the Bucket List item is to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge!

Whenever in a new city and looking for dinner recommendations I usually go and speak with the Hotel Concierge. They know the area well and can suggest options to suit your preferences. My husband and I didn’t want to dine too far from our Hotel and wanted a nice restaurant that was within walking distance. We followed our Concierge’s advice and went to Parker & Quinn. It features American focused cuisine with Mediterranean influences. Conveniently located for a nice evening walk, lovely comfortable setting, great service- we never felt rushed, and very delicious food. It turned out to be a real gem! I highly recommend utilizing your Concierge.

If you arrive in New York City by train you will enter by the Moynihan Station or, as we did, in Grand Central Station. Once there you can use the MTA Subway, taxi or a ride share to get to your hotel. Our Hotel was only 8 blocks away so we chose to enjoy the city’s exciting pace and walk. But don’t be in too much of a rush to leave the station, be sure to look around this marvelous building. There are so many great places for shopping, dining and even take a walking tour of this historic structure.

New York City is served by several forms of transportation. Three major airports, 3 rail systems and motor coach buses can all help you get to this exciting destination. My Husband and I traveled by train, using MetroNorth on the Hudson River Line from Poughkeepsie NY into Grand Central Terminal. It was a smooth comfortable ride following the Hudson River. They offer Senior Discounts too! It was just $46 round trip for the 2 of us. Space for your luggage and convenient lavatories made it worry free.
