New Mexico’s historic $1.5 billion transportation bonding program is officially underway with the first $220 million bond sale closing June 30, launching major infrastructure investments across the state.

The 2026 Series A Bonds were sold June 9 and will deliver approximately $220 million to the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) at the end of the month, marking the first allocation from the unprecedented bonding package signed by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham during the 2026 legislative session.

The bill is one of the largest transportation funding actions in state history.

Roughly $350 million in bond proceeds are expected to be available for projects this year alone.

Proceeds: $220 million
• $125 million – Border Connector, District 1, Doña Ana County
• $74.8 million – Nogal Canyon Bridge Replacement, District 1, Socorro County
• $19.6 million – Interstate 40 Bridge Replacement, District 6, McKinley County

We’re excited to share the progress happening at the Moriarty Municipal Airport!

Albuquerque Asphalt has successfully rehabilitated three of our taxilanes, repairing major cracking that posed risks to tail dragger aircraft.

Each of these taxi lanes was widened by six feet, making it safer and easier to move today’s newer, longer winged gliders from their hangars to launch points.

One of the taxi lanes had been identified as dangerous, and although the FAA declined funding, the State stepped up through HB2 to make the repair possible.

The project also included improvements to our north perimeter road, which is essential for hangar access, public entry, and deliveries.

This $835,299.80 state-funded, no match grant was made possible through the New Mexico State Aviation Department and the support of the State Legislature.

Advanced U-turns are opening on Interstate 25, and we want YOU to help name them!

Submissions open now through June 26

As part of the ongoing improvements along the I-25 corridor at Comanche Road and Montgomery Boulevard, new Advanced U-Turns (AUTs) are being added to help improve traffic flow and reduce congestion at the interchanges.

These U-turns allow drivers to safely make a U-turn before reaching the main intersection, helping reduce delays, improve signal efficiency, and keep traffic moving more smoothly through the corridor.

The Advanced U-Turns will be located at both the Comanche Road and Montgomery Boulevard interchanges and are one of several features being incorporated to enhance safety and mobility for motorists traveling through the area.

Texas has famously named the AUTs “Texas Turnarounds”, but we obviously aren’t Texas, and we honestly think we can do better. Plus, if our snowplow names have taught us anything, it is that there is a lot of creativity in the Land of Enchantment.

Rules:
• Each person can submit one name only.
• No vulgar, profane, or inappropriate language.
• Politically inspired names, including plays on politicians’ names or slogans, will not be considered. This contest is meant to be fun and nonpartisan.

NMDOT will review all submissions and select a winner, the name will be used as part of announcements regarding the new traffic feature.

The intersection of N.M. 68 and N.M. 240 will be receiving multiple upgrades in a project set to begin on June 15.

The project will include the replacement of the existing traffic signals, and overhead lighting. Other upgrades also include the installation of pedestrian rapid flashing beacons, pedestrian crossing warning flashers, new sidewalks with ADA ramps, new curbs and gutters, roadway rehabilitation within the intersection, and new signing and striping. These improvements are designed to increase safety for both pedestrians and motorists traveling through the intersection.

During construction, one lane will be closed, and a flagging operation will be in effect during working hours. Construction is expected to take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The project is expected to be completed by early 2027, weather permitting.

Join the In-Person Public Meeting for the US 550 Wildlife-Vehicle Collision Mitigation Project.

The project is designed to improve safety for both drivers and wildlife by reducing wildlife-vehicle collisions and improving wildlife movement across the highway.

Planned improvements include wildlife crossing structures, 8-foot-tall game fencing, and other features that help animals safely cross US 550.

The purpose of the meeting is to go over plans for the project and receive your input.

A presentation will be given followed by a question-and-answer session.
