The Bay put on a show for me after the storm earlier this week.

Most of our guests come out with family members, parents, spouses, or other experienced adults in their group, so additional supervision usually isn’t necessary.

This group was a little different.

They were a younger group of friends looking to enjoy a day on Sandusky Bay, and we felt it was a good opportunity to spend some extra time keeping an eye on things and making sure everyone stayed safe while having a great time.

What you’ll see in this video is exactly what we hoped for: friends riding responsibly, swimming, relaxing, laughing, and making memories on the water.

At Erie Wake Zone, safety has always been more important than squeezing in one more rental. Sandusky Bay is an incredible place to ride, but it’s still a busy waterway shared with boaters, fishermen, families, and other riders.

For this particular group, we decided to stay nearby, keep watch, and make sure their day on the water was as safe as it was memorable.

The result was an awesome day, a lot of smiles, and everyone returning to the dock safely.

Today we celebrate the 208th anniversary of the founding of Sandusky!

On June 5th, 1818, the plat of the city was officially recorded at the Huron County Courthouse (Sandusky was originally part of Huron County). The plat, laid out by Hector Kilbourne, was submitted by Zalmon Wildman, George Hoadley, and Isaac Mills, who owned the land Sandusky was laid out on.

Sandusky was incorporated as a village 6 years later in 1824, and we officially became a city by an act of the Ohio General Assembly on March 6, 1845.
