We’ll allow ourselves a little brag on this one. 🚲

Our family introduced “Bike the Bridge” back in 1988, helping turn a bike ride across the Golden Gate Bridge into a San Francisco classic.

Decades later, we're still helping visitors experience the iconic ride from Fisherman’s Wharf, across the Golden Gate Bridge, and into beautiful Sausalito.

Ready to experience it for yourself? Book online through the link in our bio and save 20%.

Want to bike across the Golden Gate Bridge but not sure how to get back?

Here’s the classic San Francisco bike route, mapped from start to finish.

Start at Fisherman’s Wharf and follow the waterfront past Fort Mason, the Marina, and Crissy Field. Then cross the Golden Gate Bridge and make your way into Sausalito.

It’s about 8 miles to Sausalito, with roughly 1.5 hours of riding time for many visitors. Take your time, stop for photos, grab lunch in Sausalito, and plan to catch the ferry back to San Francisco. Just check the ferry schedule before you go.

We’ll help you get set up with the right bike and route tips so you can enjoy the ride at your own pace.

Planning a San Francisco trip? These are four things we think are worth the money:

Biking the Golden Gate Bridge.
A good jacket.
The e-bike upgrade if you want the views without the workout.
The ferry back from Sausalito.

It makes for a pretty simple San Francisco day: ride the waterfront, cross the Golden Gate Bridge, explore Sausalito, then enjoy the view on the way back.

It's true. You really don’t need a car to see San Francisco.

A bike gives you something a car can’t: the freedom to stop when the view gets good, explore at your own pace, and make the trip between landmarks part of the experience. From neighborhood views to the waterfront, the Golden Gate Bridge and Golden Gate Park, there’s a lot of San Francisco to see from two wheels.

Crossing the Golden Gate Bridge is only the start of this one.

For riders looking for a bigger challenge, keep climbing into the Marin Headlands. Conzelman Road leads you toward Hawk Hill, with winding climbs and huge views back across the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco.

Howie took on the route and sent us the photo you see here after his ride. That is exactly the kind of adventure we like seeing from our riders.

The full route is about 18 miles and best suited to intermediate or advanced riders. We’ll get you fitted, oriented, and set up with the gear and route information you need before you head out.

Send this to the friend who would keep riding into the Headlands with you.

Think biking San Francisco is only for serious cyclists?

When travel writer Svenja Borberg and Adam from Chamy Travels explored San Francisco with us, Svenja expected biking the city to be a challenging workout.

The hills, the traffic, the distance. Then they got on e-bikes.

Their ride took them through the Presidio, Ocean Beach, Golden Gate Park and along the waterfront, with plenty of stops along the way. Svenja’s biggest takeaway: you don’t need to be an ambitious cyclist to experience San Francisco by bike.

Thanks to Svenja and Adam at Chamy Travels for sharing their story and photography with us. You can read their full San Francisco story at travel.chamy.at.
