Most people picnic in this North Beach park with no idea what's sealed under the Benjamin Franklin statue.

Follow for more insider SF stories and the best tours of the city πŸŒ‰

This is Washington Square Park, and there's a time capsule buried under the Franklin statue in the middle of it, set to open in 2079.

Across the lawn stands a monument to San Francisco's volunteer firefighters, funded by Lillie Hitchcock Coit, the same San Franciscan whose fortune built Coit Tower on the hill above.

This is what a day with a local guide gets you. The history, the hidden stories, and all the things that make San Francisco one of the most fascinating cities in the world.

These trees were here 600 years before you booked your trip 🀯

Comment MUIR for more info on our award-winning tours that take you to San Francisco's top landmarks, plus Muir Woods and Alcatraz.

Muir Woods sits about 20 minutes past the Golden Gate Bridge, where the tallest redwoods reach 258 feet, roughly a 23-story building.

It's the kind of morning that makes a San Francisco trip feel complete, with a local guide handling the reservation, the drive, and the timing.

Even after 20 years of showing San Francisco to people from around the world, this still means the world to us.

Thank you to every guest who takes the time to leave a review, and for trusting us with your San Francisco experience 🀍

Here are a few that made us smile this week πŸ‘‡

Kev, Lisa and Joel came all the way from the UK and spent the day with Wayland:
⭐ "Wayland was an excellent guide, a relaxed style combining local knowledge, personal experience and humour. Exceptional value."

Yadira took the half day out to Muir Woods with Per:
⭐ "Per was an excellent tour guide, very knowledgeable and provided a bit of history throughout. The stops were great photo opportunities and the drive was very scenic."

And a first-timer from Texas booked us expecting the usual:
⭐ "The guide made it really fun without being too cheesy. The timing between the city and Muir Woods was great. Highly suggest."

Twenty years in, and reviews like these are still the best part of the job.

Planning a trip to San Francisco? You need to see this πŸ‘‡

Comment PRESIDIO 🌁 and we'll send you our insider guide. In it, you'll find:

The four best Golden Gate Bridge overlooks in the park
The one spot locals swear by for sunset
How to get there without a car
A beach that used to be an Army airfield
The two strangest pieces of history most people walk right past

Is the Presidio already on your San Francisco list, or is this the first you're hearing of it?

Whoever said the perfect San Francisco museum day doesn't exist hasn't seen this.

πŸ“©Send this to the one friend who always says museums are boring

Start at the de Young in Golden Gate Park. The building was rebuilt after the 1989 earthquake, and the observation tower at the top is free, with a 360 view over the entire city πŸ™οΈ

Then walk across the plaza to the California Academy of Sciences. Rainforest, aquarium, and planetarium under one roof, plus an earthquake simulator that drops you into the 1906 and 1989 quakes.

And if you still swear museums aren't your thing, end at MusΓ©e MΓ©canique at Fisherman's Wharf. It's free, it's packed with arcade machines over a century old, and some of the figures inside will either make you laugh or follow you into your dreams πŸ•ΉοΈ

Art, science, and vintage nightmare fuel, all in one day.
