Our team traveled to Huntington Lake for a pre Memorial Day job.
We had our hands full towing TowBoatUS Coronado and TowBoatUS Pacific Beach up into the high Sierras.
Towing a 34’ boat on our 45’ goodneck trailer and our 30’ boat up a windy mountain road complete with switchbacks and steep climbs to the 7000’ lake was the easy part.
Our task was to move two barges,
The first was a 50’x30 barge loaded with an excavator and dredging equipment. We had to tow it accross the lake and dock it gently to a temporary landing. The move was slow and the landing was technical. But Captain Josh running the Coronado with the assist of the Pacific Beach made it look easy.
The second move required our expertise and horsepower. We move a 100’x100’ barge loaded with enough equipment for a six month dam maintenance and repair operation. The Pacific Beach was used to get the barge away from the dock and out in open water for Captain Josh to take the 500 plus ton barge in tow across the lake. Moving over 1.1 million pound was slow and steady. Once on scene we had to position the barge precisely to set three 4000lb anchor and one 6000lb anchors for a 4 point mooring. Job completed we loaded up and carefully came off the mountan and made the 400 mile drive back home in time for Captain Casey to Use the Coronado to move a 100’ boat in a two boat move.
We were the best and possibly the only option to get these barges moved.
We will return late fall to tow them back to the launch ramp for demobilization.
Great work team
