The Horizon Is Heading South to Help Our Friends in San Carlos

Many of you have seen the news. Hurricane Polo hit Puerto San Carlos and Magdalena Bay hard last week. Streets flooded, power lines came down, and when the sea wall gave way, the water went right into people's homes. Families who already had very little have lost even that.

These are people I care about. They're the ones who wave from the dock, help you tie up, and share what they have without being asked. It breaks my heart to see what they're going through.

On October 23rd, the Horizon heads down there, and we'll be in the area until December 9th. Together with Malihini Sportfishing, we don't want to show up with just fishing gear. We want to show up with help.

If your heart is in it, here's how you can help:

• Money helps the most right now. We'll use every dollar to buy supplies right there in Baja, like food, water, blankets, cleaning supplies and clothes, and hand them straight to the families who need them.

• New and gently used items in clean, good condition: kids' clothes, socks, underwear (new only), jackets, shoes, blankets, toiletries, school supplies

• Drop-off locations:
San Diego: H&M Landing, 2803 Emerson St, by Tuesday, October 20
San Carlos: While the Horizon is there (October 23 – December 9). Message me for the location.

To all the boat owners who fish in Mexico: I'm asking for your help too. Please share this post. Mexico lets us fish its waters, and the people of San Carlos, López Mateos, Las Barrancas and the rest of Mag Bay are our neighbors. These fishing towns were all hit hard and can really use the help. Now it's time for the sportfishing community to come together and help them when they need it most. That's what camaraderie is all about, guys.

They've shown us so much kindness over the years. Now it's our turn.

The Horizon lumbers triumphantly back to shore at 5 PM, fishing brag sheet in hand, after an electrifying three-day fishing extravaganza that embodied the unwavering 'we're-all-crazy-for-fish' spirit with unbridled flair! We fearlessly tangled with mighty bluefin tuna on both nights, and our team of 21 passionate anglers snagged some personal best catches - a testament to the unrelenting power of fishing that transforms us all into superheroes. Captain Jodie and Captain Bill masterfully navigated our trusty vessel through the waters, while Captain Brian and Captain Pierce and Matt wrangled the deck with expertise that left us breathless, and Adam the Chef kept us fueled with delectable grub that rivaled our impressive fishing skills. We landed an astounding 33 bluefin tuna, up to 160 pounds, plus an impressive array of other fish - 116 Vermilion Red, 120 white fish, and three chunky sheep head. The rockfish were the thrilling bonus prize nobody anticipated, keeping us on our toes as we learned a valuable lesson in fishing humility. We're gearing up for our next unforgettable fishing adventure on this Friday, May 29th, departing at 10am and returning Sunday at 6am, driven by the promise of unbreakable camaraderie and fish tales that will be etched in our memories forever. Captain Jodie is at the helm, and we’re off to a hot start on our 2.5-day aboard the Horizon, sitting at 30 bluefin for the day so far and we’re still grinding. These fish are making us work for every one we hook, but the quality is there and the shots are real.
