A lot of people ask about buying used outboards, and one of the biggest things we check is engine hours. Most importantly computers don’t lie — we can hook up to Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Tohatsu and Mercury motors and pull the total hours along with any stored codes.
But we don’t just stop there. We also run a compression test and a hands-on inspection, because sometimes problems don’t show up on a screen. Between the numbers and the physical checks, you get the full picture of what’s going on inside the motor. This is important if you’re looking at a “low-hour” engine or just want peace of mind with the motor you already own.
