The San Carlos Airport is located along U.S. 101, two miles northeast of the city of San Carlos and 20 miles south of downtown San Francisco. The airport serves the bayside communities of San Mateo County. Classified as a nonprimary commercial service airport (nonhub) by the FAA, SQL was constructed in its present location in 1948. SQL is home to 323 aircraft and 25 aviation-related businesses, and supported� 101,077 aircraft takeoffs and landings in 2022. Approximately half of the operations are business related or revenue generating. The airport is an important business and transportation asset to the community. Local businesses use their own aircraft or local air charter services to be more efficient, productive and competitive in their business markets. A variety of emergency service and response functions operate at SQL, including air ambulance, medevac flights and law enforcement patrols. Other important emergency service activities and government agencies operate at SQL to enhance the safety and security of the community. Half Moon Bay Airport (HAF)
The Half Moon Bay Airport is located on the scenic Northern California coast, six miles northwest of the city of Half Moon Bay and about 20 miles south of San Francisco. The airport serves the coastal communities of San Mateo County. Classified as a general aviation airport by the FAA, HAF was constructed by the California State Highway Department for the U.S. Army in 1942. The Army turned the airport over to the Navy following the end of WWII and the County acquired the airport from the Navy in 1947. HAF has served a variety of roles over the years, and is currently an important business, transportation and emergency-service asset to the community. HAF is home to 43 based aircraft and five aviation-related businesses. It supports a variety of emergency service and response functions including: air ambulance and medevac flights; law enforcement and homeland security patrols; Coast Guard sea-rescue operations; and is used as a disaster relief staging site for airlifting emergency supplies in the event that roads are closed during a disaster or emergency. The airport is an important community asset, supporting local tourism, those visiting the coastline and local attractions, and recreational pilots.
