Lots was going on in June around the farm…vegetable garden began producing, animals and flowers, big rain storm, began making jams and jellies from freshly picked berries and local peaches and blackberries, routine farm chores.

Watching deer. Not many babies here this year. There is a feeder dropping from that tree. (No hunting here since we feed and watch them.)

Donkeys of Lone Star Farm
Kenny is now 2mos old and is growing taller faster than filling out. He is on solid food and eating well. Here, they have Timothy pellets, which we have provided since we discovered Kenny’s birth.

I just love how momma and babies feel comfortable enough to relax and nap in our yard. I was headed out with Ellie last night to shut the gate, and we turned back when we saw their eyes reflecting back to us in my flashlight in the middle of the yard/field.

In the way of an update for those that only see this Lone Star Farm page, May brought an excessive volume of wind and rain storms. May measured 12.44” of rainfall (46.87” for year-to-date). The county region had numerous trees brought down as result of saturated ground and very windy, rainy conditions. Lone Star Farm did not go unscathed. A pine tree right in middle of our home area was struck by lightning (we are still hopeful it will survive.). First real casualty was a 70ft oak tree that fell across in front of house when it came down. While having tree guy here to "trim up" two other trees to prevent future catastrophe, it was discovered that both had "oak wilt fungus" and needed totally taken down. It has been beyond heartbreaking to see not only the loss of three irreplaceable mature trees, but also the widespread yard and flowerbed damage caused by the bucket truck, excavator, skid steer and grinder brought in take them down. June began with more rain (over 5”) in a large area storm that ultimately caused a 4-day power loss in three counties. Love the necessary rain…just wish it could come spread out over May - August!
