Moving Companies, What Happens Behind The Scenes?
Whether moving into a new home in your current town or changing locations all together, your moving company will be a big factor in the move. Perhaps you are moving in Temecula is much like moving in Fallbrook or moving in Wi******er. Most towns within 100 miles of the moving from destinations will face the same types of challenges. However, these challenges will vary depending on the season, time, and weather. So how does one prepare?
This is where the moving company you choose makes a big difference. Many people assume that the business of moving is easy. That is far from the truth. The fact of the matter is, many moving companies assume the same thing and those are the ones who fail! What goes on behind the scenes of a moving company takes skill, training, and experience. It is this level of experience and skill that makes your move a successful one. From the time you book your movers until the final box is unloaded and they leave your property, professionals are working on your project.
Legal responsibilities
The first thing to consider is the legal responsibilities of a moving company. These are different (though just as important as) the professional and ethical responsibilities. In the state of California, the company must be registered with The California Public Utilities Commission. They must be insured and their equipment must meet certain standards. They should have all licenses, registration and certifications available to the customers.
The movers should be bonded, insured and pass a detailed background check to insure the safety of the customers and their families.
Trucks and Equipment
All the trucks and equipment used by the moving company must be well maintained. They should arrive clean, in good repair and regularly inspected. A customer should be very concerned if movers show up in a truck that is not clean and in good running order. Behind the scenes of the moving company, professionals are seeing to every detail of their equipment on a daily basis.
The moving company should have adequate equipment to get the job done. Two-wheelers are necessary as well as straps, coverings and enough people to efficiently do the job. In some cases the moving company will be packing and moving, in other cases they simply move the items you have packed. In either case the moving company will be able to provide a list of what they provide.
Training
Movers have a very physically demanding job. They must be in very good condition. They must be healthy and able to lift heavy objects. But is that enough? NO! An automobile mechanic that changes tires is strong; that doesn’t mean he is to be trusted with an heirloom china cabinet.
Movers must be well trained and they take that training very seriously. Movers are trained in how to work individually and as a team to properly pick up, load and unload belongings. Behind the scenes the professionals are constantly evaluating the physical conditions of the movers they employ. There is no down time. During slow periods they are usually required to maintain a fitness routine. Their training is always cutting edge and when a mover is not at top form, a moving company cannot afford to take a risk with him. In that case, he will be placed in a non-mover position until he is able to perform to the standards they require.
In House Professionals
There is an entire team of people working in the office for the consumer while the move is taking place. They are monitoring the weather conditions, traffic conditions, construction sites and mapping alternate routes in the event of a delay. They are in contact with the movers during every phase of the move. If something is going wrong, they have a backup plan.
Perhaps they are making a move from Murrieta to Menifee and when they arrive, the homeowners have discovered that when the power was turned on in the new home, there was a broken water pipe and the kitchen and bath are flooded. Of course the flood must be dealt with before the move can continue, and the movers cannot sit in the drive for the hours or days it takes to correct the issue and clean up the water. The people at the office are experts at dealing with emergencies. They probably have the locations and information on storage units in the town. They are behind the scenes preparing for whatever may happen.
Paper Work
If it seems too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true! If the moving company has not given you a written estimate and a contract that spells out what is their and your responsibility and instead quotes you a ridiculously low price on a handshake; walk away.
Moving companies are a business. Their expertise, equipment, time and materials have a cost associated with them. They must cover those costs to make a living. Consequently, they must be able to properly determine how much it will cost to move someone. They know how much the fuel will cost, the labor will cost and how much they need to profit to stay in business while being competitive. If the moving company does not have this down to an art and in print, they are not someone to do business with.
Moving may look easy to the untrained eye, but it is a hard job. Making it look easy means the mover is doing it right!
