What Are You Really Photographing?
Most photographs fall short for one quiet reason — nothing has been clearly chosen as the subject.

Something catches your eye. You lift the camera. You press the shutter. But in that moment, the real question hasn't been asked yet: What is this a photograph of?

And then — is that the most interesting answer?

That pause, that second look, is where photography moves from recording to creating. I wrote about this recently on the blog, and included two images of the same spot on Bridge Street that show exactly what changes when the question shifts.

Something has been evolving quietly for a while now, but began in the streets of Saint Augustine – learning to slow down, notice what draws your eye, and photograph with intention – has grown into something bigger.

A method. A series. Way of seeing that travels with you wherever you go.

I'm Patricia Bean. Photographer, educator, and creator of the intentional image method.

If you followed this journey from the beginning – thank you. The best is ahead. And if you're new here – welcome.

What did you notice today that you almost walked past?
