Our hearts are with Jamaica 🇯🇲
At TideSlide, we’re deeply saddened by the unfolding crisis and we stand in solidarity with every person, family, fisherman, business owner, and community member facing the arrival of Hurricane Melissa.
📌 Key Facts
• Hurricane Melissa has rapidly intensified into a Category 5 storm and is expected to make landfall on Jamaica imminently.
• Sustained winds are estimated at up to 175 mph, placing it among the strongest hurricanes to ever near Jamaica. Winds could exceed the sea level wind speed at higher elevations on the island.
• Jamaica could receive 15–30 inches of rain, with local totals potentially reaching 40 inches — presenting major risk of flooding and landslides.
• Storm surge along the southern coast is expected between 9–13 feet above ground, plus very large, destructive waves.
• The World Meteorological Organization has described the situation for Jamaica as “catastrophic” — and cautions that many communities may not survive the worst of the flooding.
