70 Years of Service Excellence: The 1970s Expansion

In the 1970s, PROS Services made its foray into environmental work by tackling underground storage tank cleanups as part of Michigan’s state-funded MUST (Michigan Underground Storage Tank) program. This initiative was established to address the growing concern over leaking underground storage tanks, which posed serious risks to soil and groundwater contamination. PROS played a key role in these cleanups, focusing on removing hazardous materials like leaded gasoline from these tanks.

How It Worked:
Once a tank was tested for leaks, PROS would excavate the tank, safely remove the tank, and remediate any contaminated soil. The soil was then properly disposed of, ensuring the site met environmental safety standards. This was one of PROS' first steps into the environmental services sector, setting the stage for the broader waste management and remediation services we provide today.

70 Years of Service Excellence: Humble Beginnings

Back in the 1950s, an innovative approach was used to address a common problem: dust control on dirt roads. By collecting used oil from public utilities and spreading it on roads, this method helped keep dust levels down and improved driving conditions.

This practice, while not in use today, laid the groundwork for what would later become PROS Services' long-standing commitment to providing effective environmental solutions. From these early beginnings, we've grown into a trusted leader in waste management across Michigan.

Explanation of the Method: This method is referred to as dust suppression or dust control, where used oil was applied to dirt roads to minimize airborne dust particles. It was a common practice in rural areas and industrial settings before more environmentally friendly methods, like water or calcium chloride, became popular. Today, modern alternatives are preferred for better environmental impact, but this early technique played a significant role in developing effective waste management practices.
