We are thrilled to *finally* announce that Bohndell Sails has been featured on an episode of the PBS series, "Made With Love". Previous episodes of this wonderful show have spotlighted craftspeople in Italy, Mexico, France and more. Bohndell's will be on "America Made With Love: Part 2", airing on the PBS streaming platform, PBS Passport, this Friday, 2/27/26.

The episode will air on Maine Public TV at 11:00am on 3/15/26.

We are NOT closing! There’s been some confusion on the docks! Our good friends announced last week that they’re closing their loft in southern Maine. Our logos are both red and white but be sure to keep our businesses separate in your mind 🙂 We wish the Hallett family well in their future endeavors and you can plan to find us here at Bohndell Sails & Rigging for years to come. “Henry’s Tape”. This very old tape measure is still part of our regular sailmaking process. The soft fabric of the tape lays a nice fair curve for our custom cut genoa foam luffs... Better than any new tape does! In the last picture you might notice the tape doesn’t start at 0 anymore. Sometimes it breaks and we reattach the hardware. We’re not using this for measuring so it works out just fine! Our loft is full of new & old tools of the trade.

A nice depiction of roach on an old main sail. Would be a better visual if the tape wasn’t white 🙃 the sail area beyond the straight line leech is all roach. In this particular case, this Rhodes 18 sail gained a significant amount of sail area with 18” of roach! Battens perform the job of supporting the roach. Ever try to sail your main without battens? Depending on how much roach is on your sail, varying degrees of “flutter” and the corresponding flapping noise will take place! Any questions? Comment below!
