Obituary for Richard James Todd
Richard "Dick" James Todd, 78, of Rockford went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 14, 2026. Born March 17, 1947 in Oak Park; son of Adam and Ruth (Peterson) Todd. Graduate of Oak Park River Forest High School, class of 1965. He attended the College of Advanced Traffic and obtained his certification in transportation. Dick co-founded Todd Transit with his wife, Linda. Their company expanded focus and services over the course of their careers to include Todd Special Services and Todd Leasing. United in Marriage to Linda Jackson on August 19, 1967 at St. Peter's Evangelical Church in Forest Park. Dick loved the Lord and was an active volunteer at City First Church, Christian Business Men's Committee (CBMC), an elder at Rockford Rescue Mission, and sang Handel's "Messiah" with the Rockford Choral Union. In his free time, he liked to bowl, fish, golf and sail. Dick and Linda enjoyed visiting Eagle River, WI together. He was truly the best husband, dad, grandpa and father-in-law ever. Survived by his wife, Linda; children, Sherry (John) Butzow, Michael (Mary) Todd, Jason (Kirsten) Todd and former wife Beth Spiritosanto; grandchildren, Andrew (Ashlyi) Butzow, Hannah Butzow, Sarah Butzow, Rebekah Butzow, Reilly (Jacob) McClanahan, Joel (Jenna) Todd, Sam (Kayle) Todd, Ella Todd, Nathaniel Todd, Noah Todd, Madeline Todd, Hayle Kohls, Lilly Kohls, Shane Kohls; great-grandchildren, Elsie, Annie, Wilson and Emily. Preceded in death by his parents; sister, Judy Reneker - Burd; brothers-in-law, Bill Reneker, Bill Burd; pets, Zipper, Happy, Snooky, Sandy and Taffy. Visitation on Saturday, January 31, 2026 from 8:30 am to 10:30 am at First Covenant Church, 316 Wood Rd, Rockford, IL, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 am, and luncheon. Pastor Mark Taylor will officiate. Private family interment in Arlington Memorial Park. Grace Funeral & Cremation Services is assisting the family. Share a memory or condolence at

The Salvation Army does a fantastic job of helping the Rockford Community so it is our honor to be able to support your efforts.

Thank you to Todd Transit, who has supported The Salvation Army for many years. They donate transportation each year and help us load and unload the toys from the Lou Bachrodt Chevrolet Buick GMC 12 Hours of Salvation Toy Drive. With over 6,000 toys this year, we truly appreciate your support.

This week, Todd Transit Celebrates our dedicated drivers, as it is National Truck Driver Appreciation Week!
Truck drivers endure long hours, traffic delays, a general public that has no patience for them, and weather conditions that can make travel hazardous for everyone. Their professionalism and commitment to safety deserve our recognition.
Though they should be appreciated on a daily basis, please take the time this week to express your appreciation for the job they do. Without their hard work, the worlds supply chain would grind to a halt.

Todd Transit has been a part of the Rockford community for the last 51 years, and have been assisting the Salvation Army through the years by setting up employees to ring bells, or supply trucks to pick up toys at donation centers. This year Todd Transit supplied a Tractor Trailer to gather toys from Lou Bachrodt Chevrolet Buick, that had gathered over 6,500 toys.

Todd Transit has supported the Salvation Army of Winnebago County for over 30 years, having held a position on their Board of Directors, and handling the transportation for their Food and Toy Drives. We appreciate the recognition, but knowing that we have helped people of need in the community, is our real reward.
