🚁❤️ During Carilion Proud Week and EMS Week in May, we had the opportunity to celebrate our CRMH and CNRV Cath Lab teams, along with our Flight Operations team, for their outstanding success with our Early Activation process for Field STEMIs. 👏
Since implementing this triage process, we have achieved a **100% success rate** in getting eligible Field STEMI patients directly to the CRMH or CNRV Cath Lab when our local 911 Centers are able to confirm that all inclusion criteria are met and no exclusion criteria are present. 🎯
⏰As we all know, **time is muscle.** ❤️
If your EMS agency or 911 Center has questions about the process, please contact us at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]).
It is important to remember that Early Activation is available for **any qualifying Field STEMI patient** being transported by air to CRMH or CNRV. 🚁 This process is **not limited to patients transported by Carilion Clinic Life-Guard.**
🤝 Improving outcomes for STEMI patients is a shared mission, and success depends on all of us working together—EMS providers, dispatchers, flight crews, cath lab teams, emergency departments, and referring facilities.
📢 Stay tuned for upcoming **12-Lead ECG Interpretation Classes** that will be offered in the near future. 📈
Together, we are making a difference—one patient, one mission, and one partnership at a time.
❤️🚁 **Improving Outcomes, Together.** 🚁❤️

If ground EMS requests helicopter transport to Carilion for a cardiac patient and triage criteria are confirmed, Carilion Flight Ops will activate the cath lab team immediately upon pilot acceptance. This enables ED bypass and direct transport to the cath lab, reducing time to treatment and improving patient outcomes. 911 Dispatchers: Provide this information to Carilon Flight Ops when requesting a helicopter for a confirmed STEMI: 12 Lead EKG Confirms STEMI + Active Chest Pain.
