RIDE Solutions’ helps the region' residents and workers find transportation options for commute and non-commute trips by promoting resources for walking, biking, carpooling and public transit. Ride Solutions is a Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Agency – a program dedicated to expanding the efficiency and life of the roadway network and reducing the environmental impacts – air pollution – of

vehicle emissions. By helping to promote and connect individuals and businesses partners to transportation options TDM agencies (RIDE Solutions) help to reduce traffic on local roads and improve air quality (link to our community or benefits section) by reducing the impacts of vehicle emissions. Through incentive programs, education, and encouragement RIDE Solutions connections people to transportation options.

📣Announcing the 2026 Bike Award Winners! 🚴‍♂️

This annual recognition program hosted by RIDE Solutions celebrates individuals who are doing an outstanding job in making the Roanoke Region a place where bicycling is safe, inclusive and fun for everyone.

Special thank you to Lift Arc Studios LLC for creating these unique awards - mini bike racks made from laser cut stainless steel!

🏆2026 Bike Hero Award: Tom Carr 🚴‍♂️
Super Volunteer, Grant Writer, Board Member

Tom Carr is a bike hero because he works creatively and enthusiastically to make Roanoke a better place to bike for people of all ages. Tom has been instrumental to PedalSafe ROA securing grants from AARP and the Virginia Walkability Action Institute. He has served on the regional Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee, coached youth as part of the Star City Cycling team and was a founding Board member of PedalSafe ROA. In all of his roles, Tom has been a champion of bicycling improvements, bicycling skills, and bicycle safety.

Ian Coffey has demonstrated exceptional leadership in advancing bicycle infrastructure through his management of two transformative ARPA-funded construction projects: the Gainsboro Streetscape and the 9th Street Belmont-Fallon Streetscape. Both projects deliver protected bicycle facilities along critical corridors while meaningfully integrating community input and multimodal safety improvements.

Through these projects, Ian has not only expanded Roanoke's protected bicycle network but has also elevated the standard for how bicycle infrastructure projects integrate community engagement, safety improvements, and equitable access. His work exemplifies the collaborative, systems-thinking approach that advances bicycling as a safe, attractive transportation choice for people of all ages and abilities.

Every year on the third Wednesday of May, cyclists around the world gather for a Ride of Silence to remember those killed and honor cyclists killed and injured on our roads.

Our friends at PedalSafe ROA are hosting the Roanoke Ride of Silence on Wednesday, May 20 at Roanoke Square alongside the City of Roanoke, Virginia - Government. This year’s honorary ride chair is Roanoke City Mayor Joe Cobb.

The Roanoke Ride of Silence will be held at a slow pace (10mph max.) in silence.

🚲6:30pm: Gather in Market Square, remarks from PedalSafe and Mayor Joe Cobb.
🚲7:00pm: 5.5-mile silent ride begins. Ride concludes in Market Square.
