Meet Hyde, our American Black Bear who’s currently hibernating peacefully at Mill Mountain Zoo. 🐻💤 Hyde’s story is one of resilience—she was a victim of the exotic pet trade, born and raised in a facility too small to meet her needs. Hyde was raised by humans and never lived in the wild, so she couldn’t be released but found her forever home with us in 2021.

Now, Hyde enjoys her spacious exhibit and plays a crucial role as an ambassador for her species, teaching our guests about the importance of conservation and responsible animal care. 🐻✨ But providing care for Hyde and all of our amazing animals isn’t easy—it costs nearly $4,000 a day to keep the zoo running! With the winter months bringing fewer visitors, we rely on your generosity to ensure all of our animals receive the food, shelter, and expert care they need.
