🚛 FMCSA Reviewing Request to Allow Paper Logbooks Again

FMCSA has announced it will accept public comments on a request that could allow drivers to record Hours of Service using paper logbooks instead of mandatory ELDs.

The exemption request was submitted by the Federation of Professional Truckers (FOPT), which argues that paper logs are reliable, easier for small carriers, and less prone to technical issues than Electronic Logging Devices.

If approved, the exemption would apply to FOPT members and other professional drivers who choose to participate. The public comment period runs for 30 days after publication in the Federal Register.

A final decision will follow after review of industry feedback.
