Deer Hunters, this weekend there will be over 162,000 Fellow hunters in the woods across Indiana. Let's all be safe and make sure everyone returns home to their loved ones.
Let someone know where you're going to be hunting and what time you plan on returning.
When possible, take a hunting partner with you.
Make sure your ladder stands and climbers are in good condition before using them.
Always use a safety harness. Make sure you're wearing your hunter safety orange.
Make sure your firearm is unloaded before climbing into your stand.
Make sure your gun is pointed in a safe direction while loading.
Make sure your safety is on while waiting for game.
Be aware of your surroundings and the location of other hunters and homes.
Be 100% confident of your target before taking that shot, if you can't positively identify your target, then wait for another opportunity.
Before squeezing the trigger be confident that you're going to make a clean kill.
Make sure your firearm is unloaded before climbing down out of your stand.
Before field dressing your game make sure you have a sharp knife and keep all fingers and wrist clear of the blades motion.
Don't try to drag a large deer or load one in the back of an ATV or pick up truck by yourself.
Please do not display your harvest on the hood of your truck or your tailgate for others to see. Let's be respectful to all non-hunters
(Warning if you are a Facebook friend of mine, you may be exposed to a picture of harvested deer.)
