Santa Fe Southern Railway, Inc. ("SFSR") is seeking a dual certified conductor/engineer, paid semi-monthly, and subject to deductions in accordance with the Railroad Retirement Board policy. This position is subject to satisfactorily passing a pre-employment physical, hearing and vision acuity evaluation, including color blindness, and a drug/alcohol screening test.
Successful candidate will show proof of current certification(s), pass tests to evaluate knowledge of the General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR) and other safety rules, tests to evaluate knowledge of the requirements of the positions of Conductor and Engineer, on-the-job training, familiarization runs and a final check ride to observe air brake, train handling and locomotive control.
The path is to first become a (re-) Certified Conductor on the 18.5 miles of SFSR operations, which include both dark and CTC territory. Engineer training and re-certification may soon follow once Conductor certification is accomplished.
The position of Conductor/Engineer will either be part-time in nature (10-20 hours/week) or full-time (32-40 hours/week). No health care benefits are included for part-time but apply for full-time. Full time (thirty hours per week or more) position, at that point, the successful candidate will be eligible for enrollment in our health benefits plan and paid time off.
As background, while Santa Fe Southern Railway, Inc. is the tourist train operator, the marketing activities for our railroad will be under the auspices of Sky Railway. And, while there will be occasional charter train operations on Mondays and Tuesdays, general Sky Railway operations will be conducted on a Wednesday – Sunday schedule. Short Line/Regional and/or Tourist Railroad experience is a plus but not mandated.
While operations may occur on some holidays, SFSR has designated New Year's Day; Memorial Day; Fourth of July; Labor Day; Thanksgiving; and Christmas Day as paid Holidays; if you are required to work those days, compensation will be at two times your regular rate. Also, all full-time, year-round staff shall be eligible for receiving Vacation Days or Paid Time Off. Regular, full time employees, will be eligible to start accruing Paid Time Off after 30 days of employment. PTO must be used while currently employed at SFSR as all PTO is nullified at the time of termination of employment. SFSR's Paid Time Off Policy ("PTO") incorporates vacation time, sick leave and personal time off into one policy. Up through the end of your fourth year of employment, beginning after thirty days, you will accrue 4.62 PTO hours per pay period or fifteen days per year.
