I am not okay.

My people, my nation, my country are not okay.

I wake up and go to sleep crying.

I listen to Israeli radio that has to stop every few minutes to announce red alerts throughout the country, advising citizens to take shelter from oncoming rockets.

My appetite is gone.

Friends call me and ask me if I know anyone in Israel, which makes me realize that they don't understand what it is to be Jewish.

If you know a Jew, they most likely are someone or know someone or know someone who knows someone in Israel.

That is what it is to be Jewish. We even have a term called Jewish geography because we all have 1-2-3 degrees of separation between us. We are intimately connected to each other and we're connected to our land. When Israel suffers, we all suffer.

And those who hate us know that. They know that to attack Israel—be it physically or verbally—is to attack all Jews.

See us. Hear us. Please don't take part in terrorism by justifying the heinous actions of our enemies. It’s not the time to talk about politics.

Please don't lose your humanity or rid us of ours.

I am a Jew. Your fellow human being. And it hurts that I even have to say that.

We LOVE hiking and always try to plan our travel around it. Here are some hiking essentials that we bring on all our treks (featuring Rachel’s bunnies, Tonks and Lupin 😜🤣):

**Clothes**

✨Hiking pants/skorts: You want a good pair of moisture-wicking pants, shorts, or a skort that’s comfortable and easy to move around in. Rachel Honeyman loves her REI exclusive Athleta Trekkie North skort and her awesome pants from Kathmandu ; Aviv Joshua always takes her Athleta Headlands Hybrid Cargo II leggings and Columbia Sportswear hiking pants.

✨Hiking boots: A solid pair of hiking boots makes all the difference on a long and arduous hike. Aviv always travels with her Salomon hiking boots that she’s had for over 10 years, and Rachel loves her Oboz Footwear so much, she’s been wearing them to death lol

✨Wool socks: No, these will not make your feet hot! Merino wool socks absorb moisture while letting your feet breathe, so they’re a must in any weather. We both could not live without our Darn Tough Vermont Socks merino wool hiking socks.

✨Moisture-wicking tops: A great, breathable top can make all the difference in how you feel during your hike. We’re back again with more Athleta from Aviv, who loves their moisture-wicking shirts, while Rachel’s latest obsession is this top from Vuori.

✨Packable jackets: Layers are super important if you’re hiking in the winter. Rachel always brings her The North Face rain jacket and Aviv always has her lightweight packable parka from Uniqlo

**Other gear**

✨Hiking poles

✨Sunscreen from Trader Joe's—they seriously have the best sunscreen!

✨ CamelBak water bladder

✨Bug repellant wipes from Ben's Tick & Insect Repellent

✨Sunglasses—Rachel loves her new shades from goodr, though she’s sad because the lenses got scratched recently 😭

✨Baby powder and body wipes to keep you fresh

✨Power bank

✨First aid kit

✨Travel towel

✨Waterproof phone case for underwater shots when there’s a body of water to jump into

Would you add anything to the list??

We’ve been traveling for the past 15 years and have curated a list of must-have travel items that have made our travels so much easier (and we can't do without at this point!):

1️⃣ Lightweight packable jacket— Uniqlo , The North Face, Patagonia are some of our faves. Bonus second use as a pillow on those long flights!

2️⃣ Headlamp—You’d be surprised how often this comes in handy. Whether in youth hostels, camping, hiking in the dark, or on a remote island, we always make sure to bring this along. Rachel Honeyman's favorite is from Petzl.

3️⃣ Travel towels are essential for long term travel (plus, everyone knows you should always carry a towel!). We have used these on hikes, as beach towels, as blankets, and even as a makeshift umbrella on sweltering days. These towels dry very quickly, making them super convenient on the road.

4️⃣ A lightweight scarf is one Aviv Joshua always brings along, since she’s always cold. It's convenient on long flights as a blanket, can be used to block light instead of an eye mask, and can even be used as a beach cover-up.

5️⃣ Universal travel adapter with multiple USB ports—Even when not traveling internationally, this comes in handy in hotel rooms, airports, or hostels with limited outlets.

6️⃣ Laundry detergent allows us to travel longer while packing lighter. We love bringing either travel packs from Tide Cleaners or dissolvable laundry sheets from REI

7️⃣ Aviv brings wipes EVERYWHERE. Use as toilet paper, tissues, to refresh after long hikes, to clean hands, or even shoes, this is an absolute can't-do-without.

8️⃣ Travel toiletry bottles allow us to bring our favorite toiletries without having to check bags.

9️⃣ Powerbanks take the stress of losing power on those long trips without power outlets, such as hikes/backpacking, remote areas with no electricity, and plane travel.

🔟 Baby powder is a great companion to wipes when an airport shower (you know, the one you take in a bathroom stall when no shower is available 🤪) is necessary.

1️⃣1️⃣ Rachel is a self-proclaimed sleep diva and absolutely cannot sleep—at home or on the road—without this magical mask from Manta Sleep

1️⃣2️⃣ A deck of cards might be a surprising must-have, but it's a great ice breaker in hostels, and is a great boredom fighter on Shabbat

1️⃣3️⃣ Back to Rachel with her sleep diva-ness. She loves this white noise machine from Homedics because it can be plugged in or powered by batteries, making it a great travel companion

1️⃣4️⃣ Honorable mentions: carabiners and S-clips to attach various items to your bag to save space, and ear plugs placed in a contact lens case

What are your travel must-haves?

We travel all over the world—whether or not there’s kosher food or shabbat accommodations available. These 7 must-have items make it possible:

1️⃣ Portable pots and pans—made for camping, but they can be used on any stovetop and are super packable

2️⃣ Aviv Joshua always brings along her REI PocketRocket portable camper stove, then buys a small tank of propane when she gets to her destination

3️⃣ We both take along a little kit with shabbat candles, a small havdalah candle, and besamim

4️⃣ Duct tape is an absolute lifesaver if you’re staying in a hotel and need to cover motion detectors or to keep yourself from getting locked out of your room. No need to bring a whole roll—just bring what you need!

5️⃣ Packable utensils are great when you’re on the road since you never know when you’ll have access to plasticware (plus, they’re better for the environment!)

6️⃣ Rachel Honeyman got this ShabbosLite lamp that folds up and is great for travel, and she brings it everywhere!

7️⃣ Aviv made this key belt from her camera strap, and it’s been a lifesaver in areas without an eruv

What else would you add to the list?

Special shout-out to for Rachel's favorite tshirt!

- 1 dress, which can be used for a night out and for Shabbat
- 2 bathing suits
- 1 pair of chafers
- 1 pair of shorts
- 1 romper, which can be used as a pool cover-up and for a day about town
- 1 pool coverup
- 1 pair of overalls, cuz why not, really?
