Minnesota Valley Regional Rail Authority MVRRA

Minnesota Valley Regional Rail Authority MVRRA MVRRA owns 94 miles of railroad track from Norwood Young America to Hanley Falls, MN. Minnesota Prairie Line is our short line railroad operator.

Since 2001, we have completed total rehab on 44 miles of track from Norwood Young America to Gibbon, Minnesota. This rail relay rehabilitaiton now allows us to haul 286,000 ton rail cars at a minimum of 25 mph from Gibbon east. Our continued goal is to provide this same rail rehabiliation to the remaining 50 miles of track and bridge work to serve all current and new shippers who choose to locate

on our short-line railroad due to the competitive factors of business that we can provide through our operator, Minnesota Prairie Line!

๐Ÿš† MVRRA Hosts Successful Legislative Bonding Tour!

Despite the cold temperatures, we were up bright and early last week to welcome legislators for a firsthand look at the Minnesota Valley Regional Rail Authority (MVRRA) line! The tour provided an excellent opportunity to show the rail, visit the Morton shop, and share the continued impact this line has on our regionโ€™s economy and communities.

We were thrilled to have a few community members join us to show their support โ€” and even former MVRRA Administrator Julie Ellingson Rath stopped by to take part in the day!

A huge thank-you to our legislators for making the trip, listening to our updates, and recognizing the importance of continued investment in this vital freight corridor.

๐Ÿš‚ The Minnesota Valley Regional Rail Authority is gearing up for October! ๐Ÿš‚

Next month, weโ€™ll be welcoming legislators out on the Minnesota Prairie Line for their bonding tour. This visit is our chance to highlight why continued investment in this critical rail corridor matters for Greater Minnesota.

โœ… More than 9,200 cars moved in 2024
โœ… Record milestone of 1,000+ cars shipped in July 2025
โœ… Serving over 10 shippers fueling agriculture, energy, and manufacturing
โœ… Every railcar = 3โ€“4 trucks off our highways, saving on road wear and improving safety

State bonding has already helped us rebuild a significant portion of this once-abandoned line into an economic lifeline for our region. Now, weโ€™re excited to share our story with lawmakers and show how the next round of investment will keep our communities and industries moving forward.

๐Ÿ“ข Stay tuned as we prepare for this important visit in October!

๐Ÿš‚โœจ From abandoned tracks to a thriving short line โ€” the Minnesota Valley Regional Rail Authority MVRRA has proven what determination can accomplish!

๐Ÿ“ˆ This July, they shipped 1,000 railcars in a SINGLE month for the first time ever!

๐ŸŒพ With more than 9,200 cars shipped last year, new shipper expansions underway, and fewer semis on our rural highways, the momentum is undeniable.

What was once thought impossible is now a vital economic lifeline for our farmers, businesses, and communities.

Behind the scenes, RADC provides administration for MVRRA, helping to manage funding, projects, and partnerships that make milestones like this possible.

๐Ÿš‚This past weekend was one for the books! NARCOA (North American Railcar Operators Association) brought their speeders out to the Minnesota Valley Regional Rail Authority line, and Dalton and I had the chance to ride along with Area Director David Voeltz from North Redwood to Norwood Young America.

The ride was absolutely gorgeous, and the small-town spirit made it even better โ€” we were even surprised in Ga***rd with meat sticks handed out along the way (only in Minnesota ๐Ÿ’™). Brick House Meats

Even more exciting, NARCOA made generous donations to the Fairfax Depot and Belview Depot, supporting the preservation of our regionโ€™s rail history. I had the honor of presenting the check to these communities โ€” another reminder of how partnerships like these strengthen the ties between our rail line and the towns we serve.

Huge thank you to David and the NARCOA team for not only sharing this unique experience but also giving back in such a meaningful way! ๐Ÿš‰

Check out the sweet video of us traveling over the Minnesota river bridge, SUCH a cool experience!!!

The MVRRA has been working with Civil Design Inc, + Constructors, and the Minnesota Department of Transportation to reinforce the MN River bridge and the Sulfur Lake bridge to bring the load capacity up to support 286,000 lb loads. Our entity was awarded a MRSI grant, and legislated funds through the state of Minnesota to help accomplish this goal!

Our grant manager Meredith Alt, and MVRRA Administrator came to visit us earlier this week to check on the great progress that has been made!
