Reading Regional Airport is a public use, full-service transportation facility serving Berks County and Southeast Pennsylvania. Air Force.

Reading Regional Airport (RDG), also known as General Carl A. Spaatz (USAF) Field, is a general aviation airport located three miles northwest of Reading. The airport has a rich military history, originally serving as an Army Air Force training airfield, and is colloquially named after the first Chief of Staff of the U.S. In addition to military activity, the airport also supports corporate and business activity, air charter, training, aerial inspection/pipeline patrol, and recreational flights. The airport also provides a base of operation for Quest Diagnostic and their 24 based aircraft, which are used for transporting medical specimen. The airport provides facilities for the State Police, County Sheriff, and congressional offices and is also home to the impressive Mid-Atlantic Air Museum. This Museum collects, restores, and displays historic military planes and classic airliners. The airport engages in the local community by hosting the WWII Weekend air show every June and annual 5K run for an anti-bullying program.

On August 22, 1943, the Reading Army Air Field dedicated its Base Chapel, known as the “Chapel in the Woods.” The dedication featured addresses from a Catholic priest, Jewish rabbi, and Protestant minister, emphasizing that the chapel welcomed people of all faiths.

Just a few months later, on November 29, 1943, the chapel hosted its first wedding between 1st Lt. Harry L. Brown, Jr. and 2nd Lt. Sophie E. Porambo of the Station Hospital.

The chapel remained on airport property for decades before being demolished in 1992 during construction of the North Airport Industrial Park. A memorial constructed from the chapel’s original stone still stands at the base of the terminal flagpole today, honoring those who served our country here at RDG.

What a great week for aviation at Reading Regional Airport! ✈️

Last Wednesday through Friday, we were proud to welcome the 46th Annual Pennsylvania Aviation Conference, hosted by the Aviation Council of Pennsylvania and Aerium, alongside our annual Reading Aviation Career Fair on Friday.

The week featured a tour of the NetJets facility for conference attendees on Wednesday, the Aviation Scholarship Gala at the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum, and concluded with the Reading Aviation Career Fair on Friday. This year’s Career Fair welcomed more than 1,500 attendees and 34 exhibitors, connecting students, job seekers, and aviation professionals while highlighting career opportunities throughout the industry.

A special thank you to ACP and Aerium for organizing a successful conference, and to all of the sponsors, exhibitors, volunteers, and attendees who helped make these events possible!

In partnership with Chester County Aviation, FREE HELICOPTER RIDES will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Rides are first come, first served and subject to availability.

A signed participation waiver is required for all riders. Participants under 18 must also have a parent or legal guardian sign the waiver.

Waivers are available to print and complete in advance at ReadingAviationExpo.org/aviation-career-fair. Please bring your completed waiver with you to the event. Copies will also be available at the helicopter ride tent on the day of the Career Fair.
