So long May, hello June!

May was a crazy month for us for sure, from graduating college to traveling overseas, and everything in between! One thing we always look forward to when it’s time to flip the calendar to the next month is seeing the picture that comes along with it! Each month of the 2026 calendar has our best picture from that month in 2025, and I think this one is up there for best of the year! Golden hour, GP60 leader, 5-unit lashup, very hard to beat!

We’d love to know if you all would be interested in getting your own RF&P Productions 2027 calendars with photos taken this year, so let us know down below, and keep an eye out for drops later in the year!

Flex for the camera 💪📸

Watching Wi******er & Western work this CSX interchange told us one thing…they don’t mess around! They were in and out under 20 minutes, and the conductor had a little fun with it too! He gave us a quick 💪 while maintaining three points of contact as he rode the shove back onto the Wi******er & Western main!

Listen to that echoooooo🔊

If anybody was still asleep on this dreary Sunday morning in Harper’s Ferry, I can almost guarantee they weren’t after this M415! With a K5HL-equipped CM44AH leading the charge, and a mean K5HL at that, the eastbound mixed freight certainly made its presence known as it came through the cut of the Blue Ridge Mountains!

Luck of the Draw

Whether it was pure luck or a late Christmas miracle, we watched the South Jefferson signal upgrade from stop to clear in the very brief time we were in the area! Within a few minutes, NS UR11 trundled up the line with a pair of sister SD40-2s for power. Ducking beneath the 1906-built (I believe) N&W bridge, the train nears its home yard of Roanoke, VA.

Slap a sticker on it…

While the Class I freight railroads (and some shortlines as well) are going all out to make some incredible 250th anniversary locomotive paints to celebrate our country’s upcoming Quarter Millenium of existence, Amtrak…uhh…put some stickers on a few engines. Here’s one leading the Floridian through the Cherry Run interlocking, with a barely noticeable 250th emblem near the rear of the locomotive.

On the Way Out

A massive 126 traverses the New River in Radford, Virginia with an SD70ACU trailing on the head end. These locomotives had a good run, but their time is nigh. Many have found a resting place in one deadline or anther, finally conceding to progress and awaiting the next steps.

You’re gonna need a stronger password…

It’s been a couple months since we saw this little guy being used for yard and local operations in Covington, but we figured we’d feature it one more time! If you thought the full-size Spirit of Louisville, CSXT 12, had small emblematic text, get a load of this guy!

Vertically Challenged

In the nicest way possible, the CPLs at Whitethorne are…vertically challenged! If you saw my post showcasing the CPL signals at Ellis Run, which were around twice the height of the passing 11Z, then you’ll have noticed a stark difference in height of this pair! The westbound 811 makes an afternoon run on the Whitethorne District through the district’s namesake town as the still-standing CPLs guard the east end of the siding.

The hotshot waits for nobody!

Re**er cars full of oranges take priority, wouldn’t you say? They certainly take more priority than the 14-car M690 waiting off in the distance! This edition of I032 took priority on a busy afternoon in Savannah, GA! This train often makes all the others wait, unless it gets tangled up with Amtrak of course. Our home turf, Northern Virginia, sees the two hotshot intermodals pass at what we believe to be strategically planned times: I032 in the early morning hours before the morning passenger rush, and I031 around midday, between the morning and afternoon passenger rushes!

Let’s Get Ya Both Movin’

CSXs JD Dispatcher was handed an interesting situation as the newly recrewed M209 was joined at Carswell Avenue in Waycross, GA by the inbound B243. With the ACL HU leading the former and a CP GEVO leading the latter, both trains were given simultaneous indication over Rice Junction to continue their respective journeys!
