The JoCo marsh is NYCs largest and highest salt marsh and home to an abundant amount of wildlife. You'd never know unless you get on the boat with us!
Sunrise Birding tours are scheduled to align with high tide so that we can sail through the creeks of these marshes. Since the tide changes everyday, some of our regular sails and lessons line up with the high water and we will sail through the marsh.
These ancient marshes are slowly eroding on most of their perimeters and we must start thinking about ways in which to minimize this detriment and support ongoing efforts to stabilize and regrow the marshes. The salt marshes do a lot to clean the waters of Jamaica Bay as well as hold back storm surges; acting as a barrier and an absorbant when flood waters approach our shorelines.

Youth Summer Sailing adventures within Jamaica Bay National Wildlife Refuge.
Did you know that the vast majority of Jamaica Bay is actually a national park? Furthermore, its the the only urban national park in the nation and its NYCs largest open space. Theres parts of the Bay that havnt been manipulated by humans and still look the same as they were hundreds of years ago.

HIGHLY LIMITED SAILS THIS SEASON! If you want to sail, dont sleep on it. Tomorrow never knows...
After 7 exponentially wonderful years of Sail Rockaway, the captains are taking a small step back this season to essentially re-structure the business for the coming years, as well as explore new ways to get people on the water for free. This all takes time to do it right. So if you see an availability on the schedule, book it! We are literally reducing offerings every week as it becomes clear that balancing work and innovation is no simple feat. Dont worry though; Sail Rockaway is here to stay.
