Another beautiful day in CTs Quiet Corner. Lots of activities to choose this weekend.

We went to Woodstock Orchard for a sweet treat from the bakery. There was all the Fall fruit and vegetables for eating and decorating. We went out into the orchard to pick apples to stock up for baking.

A short distance up the road at Roseland Cottage, known to locals as the Pink House, was the Fine Arts Festival that is a yearly happening. Some of the artisans had jewelry, handbags, candles, pictures, wood working, lamps, stained glass, food and lots more. I got a copper pair of earrings a nice find.

Better pack your patience if you want to go to Roger Williams zoo to see the Jack-o-Laterns.

Parking is crazy we arrived about 7:15 and finally after driving around the zoo twice at a snails pace we parked at 8:38. Tickets are sold on the hour to get people in and out but schedule was not working.

The park was well lit, the trail was paved or hard packed so it was easy for baby strollers or wheelchairs. Lots of bathrooms and food vendors too after all that waiting.

There was something for everyone’s taste whether Spooky or scary, with lots characters and themes. Music was playing to co-ordinate with the themes and fog continued throughout the trail.

It was a beautiful day on this long Fall weekend and was a good day to take a drive. We ended up at Sulvermans Farm in Easton CT

It was a busy place today. The store was packed with people picking up fall treats. The outdoor market place had gourdes pumpkins, apples, dried corn and corn stalks. Everything to decorate inside or outside your home. There were food trucks and vendors for a snack too.

There is also a 5 acre animal farm for feeding and petting. The most interesting to me was the wagon ride. Several wagons were climbing the steep hill where the apple trees were planted. It was a bumpy ride with a great view.

It is National Alpaca Open House weekend. We visited Morning Beckon Farms in Thompson, CT.

There were so many alpacas. I asked how many to you have and was told 100. The number can grow to over 200 at times. They are an alpaca distribution center but have some keepers.

They each have different personalities. Some want treats, some want to eat out of the treat bag, some want pets others do not. All seemed to be gentle creatures. We enjoyed seeing each of them.

We went into the store and found lots of goodies.

Took a tour today at the White Flower Farm in Morris, Connecticut, part of the Litchfield Hills.

Our guide Tom was very personable and knowledgeable of all the plants in the gardens. The group of visitors were friendly and shared about their gardens too.

The tours are given in the Fall and Spring. You will hear the rich history of the property, have a delicious light lunch, and a stroll through the beautiful gardens. The highlight was shopping through their plants and garden wares in the shop.

They have new plants that will be available for the next growing season. The variety of plants was really astounding. Some plants were common and easily identifiable and many that I would need to look up.

It was a lovely way to spend an afternoon. Check out their catalog to find treasures for your garden.

Do you like a formal garden? Visit the The Green Animal Topiary Garden in Portsmouth,Rhode Island.

This estate was originally owned by Thomas L Braydon, a textile owner from Fall RiverMA,, inn the late 1880s.

Located in Narragansett Bay the property manicured and beautifully designed. The variety of plants and the topiaries are very impressive.

Today was a great late summer day and the weather was perfect. It was also the Towers in
Narragansett Rhode Island tour day. We were lucky to to get free parking along the sea wall.

Our tour guide, Chris was informative and entertaining. It was a good walk through history of the building. The construction of the building started in 1883 and was much more the just towers. Over the years this site had its share of problems.

We enjoyed the walk through and beautiful views from inside the towers. It is such a unique venue for any kind of event.

After the tour we walked down Ocean Avenue to Monahan’s Clam shack ( short 15 minutes walk). A nice place to sit and eat with the ocean breeze. The food was delicious and inexpensive. They also had ice cream if you had room

The beach was crowded but the water was wonderful. Great way to spend the day.

What to do on a hot humid day? We found a great break from the heat on a boat ride.

The lighthouse cruise out of New London CT was a fun way to spend the afternoon. The tour is a great history lesson of the area and light houses. We learned some lighthouses are haunted!

The trip was inexpensive at only $34 per seat. Your seat can be inside and be air conditioned and have large glass windows, at the back of the boat with some shading, or on the top deck enjoying the sunshine .

Check out their website for details.
