Ops managers: what's the one metric you wish your carrier tracked and reported to you automatically every month?

Genuinely curious what you're not getting that you should be.

If you're running manufacturing freight in the Four States...

And need a carrier who knows your lanes, stages early, communicates before you ask, then we should talk.

Freight myth #1:

Bigger carriers have better capacity.

In theory, sure. In practice: a carrier with 10,000 trucks and a 65% tender acceptance rate is less reliable than a regional carrier with 100 trucks and 100% acceptance.

Capacity means nothing if they say no when you need them.

More of these myth busters are coming. Drop a myth in the comments you've been told that never quite felt right.

The industry average for how long a shipper keeps the same carrier: 1-2 years.

Ours: 8-11 years.

In freight, that number doesn't happen by accident.

It's honestly mythical but when you have the right carrier it just makes sense to stick around.

Your carrier's on-time rate means nothing if they track on-time differently than the way your production schedule does.

Ask them how they define it and the answer will tell you everything.

A bunch of carrier scorecards are built to make the carrier look good.

Window of on-time delivery: 4 hrs.

Claims that go disputed are often excluded from ratio calculations.

Tender rejections during peak sometimes aren’t tracked at all.

Eagle Logistic tracks the way your team would track it.

Dock ready or not.
Load accepted or not.
Freight delivered intact or not.

Those numbers look different for a lot of carriers when you measure them honestly.

But ours always hold up.

Nobody calculates these numbers. So we did.

The setup: 20 loads per month. Carrier on-time rate of 87%, which is industry average by the way.

87% on-time means 2-3 late loads per month statistically.

Now run the cost:

Line downtime: $10,000/hour is a commonly cited figure for mid-size manufacturing operations.

Even a 2-hour delay per incident: $20,000 hit.

2-3 incidents per month: $40,000-$60,000 in exposure.

Per year: up to $720,000 sitting inside a carrier's average on-time rate

Those numbers aren’t on an invoice and you can miss them easily. The way the numbers appear are as downtime, overtime, and expedited freight.

Our on-time rate is at an amazing 99%.

Those same 20 loads a month become statistically 0-2 late loads per year!

We're not telling you to switch carriers based on one post.

But we're saying run your own version of this math before you renew your next contract.

Being average isn't as safe as you think. In manufacturing average is what stops your process.

If you've ever called your carrier to check on your own load then that's the problem right there.
