🏈On January 27, 1970 Louisiana Tech quarterback Terry Bradshaw was taken first overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL Draft held at the Belmont Plaza Hotel in New York City. The Steelers drew the first pick in the draft after winning a coin flip tiebreaker with the Chicago Bears due to the teams having identical 1–13 records in 1969. After the Bears lost the coin toss, they traded their second overall pick to the Green Bay Packers. Bradshaw was one of two future Hall of Fame inductees selected by the Steelers in the 1970 Draft; the other being Mel Blount from Southern University with pick 53 in Round 3. The date of January 27 is a notable day in Steelers history. Exactly one year to the day before drafting Bradshaw, the Steelers hired 37-year old Chuck Noll (pictured below alongside Bradshaw) on January 27, 1969 to be their head coach. Also on January 27, 1901, founding owner of the Steelers Art Rooney would be born in Coulterville, Pennsylvania.🏈
