Massachusetts Boating Safety Course: This is open to anyone who wants to take it!

A new Massachusetts boating safety law is going into effect, and this is a great time to get certified before the season gets busy.

Under the Hanson-Milone Boater Safety Act, Massachusetts will require motorboat and personal watercraft operators to have a valid Boater Safety Certificate. Operators born after January 1, 1989 must be certified by April 1, 2026, with enforcement penalties beginning September 1, 2026. Operators born on or before January 1, 1989 must be certified by April 1, 2028. The certificate must be carried while operating on Massachusetts waters.

The Truro Police Department is hosting a free Massachusetts Boating Safety Course, taught by the Massachusetts Environmental Police, for anyone looking to earn their Boater Safety Certificate.

Students must attend all three sessions.

New Massachusetts boating law now in effect!
Anyone operating a motorized vessel who was born after January 1, 1989 is now required to have a state-approved boating safety certificate. This is required for both boat renters and boat owners. The course is simple, app-based, and can be completed online at your convenience. We’ve included the link in bio to get started!
