First climb of the season!

Installed a Garmin Gwind 2 wireless masthead sensor on a client's Catalina today. Wireless sensors are a great way to add functionality without the stress of stepping the mast and running a new cable.

Cold and misty day but low wind and light vessel traffic (No wakes!) make for an easy climb.

New Massachusetts boating law now in effect!
Anyone operating a motorized vessel who was born after January 1, 1989 is now required to have a state-approved boating safety certificate. This is required for both boat renters and boat owners. The course is simple, app-based, and can be completed online at your convenience. We’ve included the link in bio to get started!

First roller furler of the season installed and on the books!

Sonar is a powerful tool for the modern fisherman's tackle-box, and transducers are a vital (yet often overlooked!) part of this system.

Rouse Marine Services attended the Airmar Certified Installer training at their production facility in Milford, NH. This training included a great look into their manufacturing processes and product lines, as well as transducer system design, installation, and hands-on troubleshooting.

Another before and after! This is what happens after years of uncertified work, quick fixes, and old wire pile up. Eventually a marine electrical system gets so messy it becomes a serious hazard, and must be replaced.

The old lighting fixtures were replaced with USCG compliant impact protected fixtures, and three Equipment Leakage Circuit Interrupter (ELCI) breakers were installed on board- one of which is visible here- to mitigate the risk of AC current leakage, and to comply with standards.

The unprotected AC outlets (one of which was nonfunctional anyway) were also replaced with a single GFCI to comply with ABYC standards.

Cables were sheathed in protective loom where applicable, resulting in a much cleaner and logical electrical system.

Flashback from last year!

This marine DC system required a complete overhaul and redesign to meet standards.

Thanks to our supplier we designed a new power switching system using automatic Blue Sea System relays and remote switches to balance charging sources between multiple battery banks.

Now our client doesn't have to crawl into the engine room to turn off their battery switches, and has the peace of mind provided by a robust power distribution system that is able to automatically protect itself.

MA Boaters: Has a manufacturer ever "bricked" your expensive marine electronics by dropping support? We recently had to replace a client's vessel monitoring system for this exact reason- a frustrating and costly expense.

There’s some good news on the horizon in the Commonwealth. Two new bills (SD3606 & HD5563) are being considered that would require manufacturers of internet connected devices, like your multi-function displays (MFDs), vessel monitoring systems, and satellite communications to disclose important information such as:

-Minimum Support Periods: You’ll know exactly how many years of technical support and security updates are guaranteed before you buy.

-Provide Warnings: Manufacturers must notify you at least 6 months before ending support, explaining exactly which features will stop working.

-Ensure Transparency: No more guessing on the support lifespan of your high-end electronics.

As your installers at Rouse Marine Services, we’re following this bill closely and expressing our support for this consumer protection initiative to our local representatives.
