As of April 10, 2026, the EU rolled out the **EES (Entry/Exit System)** —the biggest change to European border control in decades.
👀 **What does this mean for you?**
If you're traveling to any Schengen Area country and you're not an EU national, you'll need to register your biometric data (facial scan + fingerprints) at your first entry point.
✅ The good news: you only do this **once**. After that, your data is saved for all future trips , just a quick face scan going forward.
🌍 **Who does this apply to?**
Any traveler who doesn't hold EU nationality, doesn't require a visa, and is traveling for tourism, business, or short stays up to 90 days.
⏱️ The process itself takes about 2-5 minutes, but lines can get long with everyone registering for the first time , so plan accordingly!
**My top tips for a smooth trip:**
💡 **Tip #1:** Arrive early to the airport, make sure your passport is valid, and have your international medical insurance ready , they will ask for it.
🚨 If you have a connecting flight once you land in Europe, build in a minimum of 3 hours between flights so you're not cutting it close.
💡 **Tip #2:** Download the official **Travel to Europe** app ahead of time , you can pre-load some of your info to speed up the process.
Right now it works for entry through Portugal or Sweden, with more countries being added soon.
Nothing should stop you from finally making that European dream trip happen , just go in knowing this new requirement! 🌍✨
