As we walked the beautiful grounds of the famous Little Rock Central High School, we recalled having learned about the Little Rock 9 when we were young, and how it felt like ancient history.
And how that couldnโt have been further from the truth.
The 1954 Supreme Court decision in Brown v. Board, made segregation in schools unconstitutional. It then took THREE MORE years for the Little Rock 9 to enroll in the prestigious Central High School, during the summer of 1957. On the first day, they were met with violent protests & rioting from white Americans, simply because of the color of their skin. Even the National Guard prevented them from entering the school that day.
Itโs an atrocity for humanity, and a stain on this nation.
And now, in 2022, human rights continue to be up for debate.
The 14th amendment - which was invoked for the Brown v. Board case - was used again in 1973 during Roe v. Wade and AGAIN in 2015 for Obergefell vs. Hodges (which legalized same-sex marriage).
Now I donโt really care about your personal beliefs on any of the above. If you donโt like the idea of gay marriage, donโt get gay married. If you think abortion is wrong, it is your American right to never have one. AND EVEN to say how you think itโs wrong!
But ๐๐ฅ๐๐๐๐ข๐ means the ability to ๐๐๐ข๐ข๐ฆ๐ what is best for your own life.
And a threat to any ๐ผ๐ป๐ฒ of these rights, is a threat to them ๐ฎ๐น๐น.
