Our day in Monemvasia was like stepping back in time. We explored this incredible island by taking the local bus across the causeway, arriving at a destination that feels so rich with history and character. Monemvasia, often called the “Gibraltar of the East,” is known for its dramatic rock setting, medieval fortress town, and winding cobblestone lanes that seem to whisper stories from centuries past.

As we wandered, we were surrounded by stone archways, old-world charm, and stunning sea views at every turn. It was the perfect place to slow down and soak in the atmosphere of one of Greece’s most fascinating and romantic destinations. A truly memorable day in a place that feels both timeless and unforgettable.

What an amazing day in Santorini! We took the tender ashore and rode the cable car to the top, where we shopped a bit and met our wonderful guide, Yiannis from Wineland Tours. This private wine experience was such a highlight, beginning with a walk through the vineyard where we learned all about Santorini’s volcanic soil and the unique basket-shaped vines that protect the grapes from the strong wind and intense sun.

Our first stop was Argyros Estate Winery, where we toured the wine-making facility and enjoyed four delicious wines paired with snacks. Next, we visited the family vineyard at Gavalas Winery, a proud fifth-generation winery that is still going strong. There, we tasted four more wines along with cheese, olives, and breadsticks. We then strolled through a quaint village setting to see how the locals live before arriving at our final stop, Santos Winery, for a front-row sunset tasting. The views were breathtaking, the wine was delicious, and the charcuterie platters were delightful.

Afterward, it was back to the cable car and back aboard the beautiful Azamara Onward just in time for the White Night party. Santorini truly delivered an unforgettable day from start to finish.

Today in Agios Nikolaos, Crete, we soaked in the charm of this beautiful seaside town. We strolled around the lake in the center of town, Steve visited the archaeological museum, and I browsed the quaint shops along the way. With the wind blowing hard, we retreated to the comfort of the gorgeous Azamara Onward for a relaxing afternoon watching the blue Aegean Sea stretch out before us. Greece has been full of beautiful surprises, including cats just about everywhere you look.

A beautiful day in Marmaris, Turkey, where history and seaside charm met at every turn. We explored the castle, wandered the cobblestone streets, enjoyed a little taste of home at Starbucks, and soaked in the stunning views of the marina. With warm weather and blue skies, it was the perfect day to slow down and take it all in.

Our day in the port of Rhodes was such a memorable adventure, made even more special by the wonderful people we met along the way. We were fortunate to connect with Steve, who offered us a private guided tour of the island, giving us the chance to explore the incredible Acropolis ruins and enjoy a scenic island tour. One of the highlights of the day was visiting his friend Michael, a fourth-generation potter, and his wife, who create the most exquisite handmade pottery. I even had the chance to throw my very own pottery bowl, and we came home with beautiful pieces to cherish forever. In the afternoon, we walked within the walled old city, touring the grand palace castle, admiring the clock tower, and wandering through the endless cobblestone streets of Rhodes. It was the perfect blend of history, culture, and authentic local charm.

A visit to the sacred island of Patmos was one of the unforgettable highlights of our Azamara Greek intensive cruise. Known for its serene beauty and deep spiritual significance, Patmos offered a meaningful journey through history as we explored the Monastery of St. John and the sacred cave where St. John is believed to have written the Book of Revelation. Between the sweeping sea views, peaceful atmosphere, and rich religious heritage, Patmos felt like a place where time stood still and every moment carried a sense of reverence and wonder.

Exploring Budapest: Highlights from Our Recent Trip

Budapest gave us everything: elegance, history, beauty, and just the right amount of old-world drama.

We stayed at the stunning Anantara New York Palace Budapest, where each morning began with breakfast at the iconic New York Café — easily one of the most unforgettable hotel experiences of the trip. From there, we wandered through a city layered with stories and sweeping views: the majestic Hungarian Parliament Building, the moving Shoes on the Danube Bank memorial, the elegant Chain Bridge, the historic Buda Castle, and the breathtaking terraces of Fisherman’s Bastion.

We also made time for St. Stephen’s Basilica and some wonderful shopping at the Great Market Hall, where Budapest’s local flavor really comes to life. And for a deeper look into the city’s past, Steve visited the House of Terror Museum and the Hospital in the Rock Nuclear Bunker Museum — powerful, sobering stops that added real depth to the experience.

Budapest is the kind of destination that stays with you long after you leave. Beautiful, layered, and completely captivating.

Sometimes, low water levels in Europe’s rivers require a few creative tweaks to travel plans—and that’s exactly what happened on our cruise aboard the AmaMagna. Because this ship is twice as wide as typical river cruisers, it could not sail the usual route from Vienna to Budapest since the water levels were too low.

But no worries—AmaWaterways rose to the occasion with style and comfort. For our day trip to Bratislava, we travelled by luxury motor coach, enjoying a beautiful and seamless tour. Then, for our final night onboard, we celebrated with a delightful Captain’s Gala Dinner and reception, savoring exquisite cuisine and excellent service. As the full moon lit the sky, we strolled the upper deck, soaking in the magic of our last evening on the ship.

To conclude our journey, we spent a wonderful night at the stunning Al Habtoor Luxury Hotel in Budapest, complete with a memorable dinner. Throughout it all, every tour and experience remained as remarkable as ever.

With luxury travel, it’s all about flexibility and flawless moments—no matter what the river has in store.
