Sorry to say not racing any more. It has been some of the best times and some of worst times! But would do it all again!

If you have a chance to race, Go For It!

The following text is from my, Richard Fuller, page posted after the race:

Race day tomorrow! IF all goes well, Jim Creagan and Carlos Waumann Gonzalez will start at about 2 PM. At Race Mile 397, about midnight Thursday Jim and Carlos get out and Aaron Bahner and Gerry Waumann get in and race to mile 875, about noon Friday they get out and Kevin Fuller and Chris Baldwin get in and race to the finish at race mile 1275 La Paz about 10 PM Friday!
Of course we all know what happens to the best laid plans...I suspect the Baja desert will throw all that it is at us...well we have up to 49 hours to finish...
Racing the Baja 1000 is an amazing adventure! Thank you Lord for the opportunity! Keep us safe and God speed for team PopaWheely Racing! — at Score Intenarional Baja 1000 Ensenada B.C.

We, as in me and Craig (chase 1) are off to pit 17 @ race mile 875. It is 18 hours south of Ensenada. We have the 3rd driving team, Kevin and Chris. They get in the car tomorrow with luck about noon.
Milton and Mike (chase3) are off to pit 1 about 1 hour east then take care of pits 2 and 3 east of the mountains. Then come back to Ensenada and head south to catch with the race car.
Crane and Jacob (chase 2) are off to pit 4 about 2 hours south where the cars come across the mountain to the Pacific side. Then they will take care of pits 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 before they get a break.
Donny (chase 4) heads south to pit 10 in Catavina about 6 hours south. He takes the second driving team of Aaron and Gerry with him. They get in the car there at race mile 397 with luck tonight at midnight.

PopaWheely Update...not good...we broke a bolt that holds the trailing arm. At race mile 200 trying to fix it with what we have there. We have the right parts but in the wrong location...hours away!
Trying to get through the next check point before we time out. If we can do that then we have until 9am Pacific to get it fixed, to the next checkpoint and do more racing.
Clearly we are out of the running but we are not ready to give up...

Running again...with the help of a farmer to fabricate parts...we are moving again.
We are returning to pit 10 to put in the correct parts...4 hours away...

Well...PopaWheely Race fans...looks like the Baja Desert won again! At race mile 263 we broke hard! I'll save the details for later...more than disappointed. Last year 4th place...this year only 263 miles...
Feeling the agony of defeat... — with Kim Fuller and 9 others.

SCORE Baja 1000 Post Race Report: Total starters 298 from 34 US states and 23 countries. Total finishers 174, 58.38%

This was the 45th year for the Baja 1000, we raced it in 2010 and finished but missed the time limit by about 15 minutes. We raced in 2011 and crashed about 70 miles from the finished line. In 2012 we bought a new faster car, teamed with Bi-Polar Racing, got 2 sponsors receiving $$$ worth of equipment and tires, came down to Baja and pre-ran more than any other time, 4 chase trucks, 3 driving/navigator teams...it felt like we really could win this year...but was not to be...engine failure just 61 miles from the finish...

It really is amazing that we get to take part in the longest continues point to point desert race in the world. It really is a magical event, racing through the Baja desert for more than 40 hours straight. Little to no sleep, chase trucks racing from pit to pit, ensuring we get fueled at each pit and being there at touchpoints to help or just encourage as they fly by...

124 racers did not finish...$300,000 cars and $30,000 cars, broken dreams mixed with bitter disappointment... tough, very tough. I am thankful we stayed safe even when we race on the edge...what an adventure. The great thing is I get to do it with my son...I love being able to share in his dream of racing Baja....so I say this for myself and the other 123 racers that did not finish, don't give up, keep at it, stay the course...they say that it's not necessarily the destination but the journey that is important, yes the journey is indeed amazing but we must continue to seek glory in the dust of the Baja 1000.

We broke at race mile 1061 just 61 miles from the finish...a big fat DNF, (did not finish)...
