If you’ve been trying to get in touch with us over the last couple of days, we promise we haven’t forgotten about you! We’ve just traded St. Joseph Bay for the beautiful waters of the Bahamas and St. Thomas for a much-needed family vacation! 🚢🌊

🚨🌊 IMPORTANT WEATHER UPDATE: TEMPORARY CLOSURE 🚨

With Hurricane Isaias approaching our area, Bayou Boat Rentals will be CLOSED beginning today, Thursday, October 8th, through Saturday, October 10th.

Due to unsafe boating conditions on St. Joseph Bay and the need to secure and prepare our fleet ahead of the incoming storm, we’ve made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend rentals.

We never like having to close our doors, especially when it means changing someone’s vacation plans. But at Bayou Boat Rentals, your family’s safety will ALWAYS be our number one priority. 💙

If the conditions aren’t safe enough for us to put our own families out on the Bay, we’re certainly not going to put yours out there either.

🚤 We are hoping to reopen Sunday, October 11th, weather and bay conditions permitting. We’ll continue monitoring conditions and provide updates as we know more.

To all of our customers, friends, fellow business owners, and neighbors, please take the necessary precautions, stay weather-aware, and stay safe as this storm approaches.

🌊💙 Opening day may have looked a little different this year… but some things haven’t changed! ☀️🚤

This weekend would normally have been the kickoff to scallop season here on St. Joseph Bay. While there weren’t any scallops being harvested this year, there were still plenty of familiar faces, new faces, sunshine, laughter, and memories being made on the water!

We loved seeing so many of our returning customers who come back year after year, and we were just as excited to welcome new families and groups to Bayou Boat Rentals. 💙

These crews proved that even without scalloping, there’s still SO much to enjoy on St. Joseph Bay. They cruised, swam, explored, relaxed, enjoyed the boats, and most importantly, still had a blast together! 🐬☀️🌊

We’re thankful for everyone who chose to keep their plans and spend their day on the Bay with us. Your support means so much, especially during a season that looks a little different for our community.

And while we’re making the most of this summer, we’re already looking forward to seeing all of these familiar faces again next year for what we hope will be a REAL scallop season opening day! 🐚💙

🌊 IMPORTANT 2026 ST. JOSEPH BAY UPDATE 🌊

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has announced that the 2026 recreational bay scallop harvest season in the Gulf County Zone, including St. Joseph Bay, will be CLOSED this year.

FWC’s summer survey found very low scallop numbers in St. Joseph Bay, and the closure is intended to give the scallops currently in our waters the opportunity to spawn, rebuild their population, and hopefully help protect scallop seasons for years to come. 💙

While we know scalloping has long been a favorite summer tradition for locals and visitors alike, protecting the health of our Bay and its wildlife is incredibly important.

☀️ But here’s the GOOD NEWS: St. Joseph Bay is still OPEN and ready to be enjoyed!

🎣 Fishing
🏊 Swimming
🐬 Dolphin watching
🏝️ Exploring the Bay
☀️ And, of course, spending a beautiful day on the water!

Only the harvesting of bay scallops is closed.

There are still so many reasons to grab the family, pack the cooler, and spend the day exploring one of the most beautiful places on the Forgotten Coast. 🌊💙

We’ll continue to support efforts to protect and restore our Bay, and we’re hopeful that giving our scallop population this time to recover means many more scalloping summers in our future.
