A Ton of Oyster Shells collected!

Over the last year, LISEC has partnered with Avalon Nature Preserve and Half Shells for Habitat to help recycle Oyster Shells from dinners at local restaurants. So far, we have saved 1,700 lbs of Shells from going into the landfill.

Recycled oyster shells are kept outside for a year and then used to rebuild local oyster reefs or for “spat on shell programs” where baby oysters (spat) attach to existing shells to develop into adults.

Combined with our recycling efforts at the Oyster Jamboree, where our volunteers helped recycle an additional ton of shells, LISEC is making a positive difference in our environment!

The 1964 LIghting restoration is back in the Boat Shop! We took a break from this project to dedicate time (4-years) to the Armed Whaleboat project.

This classic two owner woody was donated to the Boat Shop in 2023. It’s currently going under total restoration including new cedar bottom planking.

Contact the Boat Shop if you are interested in purchasing this woody and / or would like to take part in its restoration.
