Lakes Pilots Association

Lakes Pilots Association Federal Pilots for the St. Clair and Detroit river systems as well as Lake Erie and its associated ports.

We provide compulsory pilotage for foreign and domestic shipping for vessels coming from the Atlantic ocean into the Great Lakes. Our area of responsibility covers the waters and ports of Lake Erie as well as those of the St Clair and Detroit rivers. Our goal is to provide efficient and reliable pilotage services to our users and safety and environmental stewardship to the public.

On Monday we welcomed Congresswoman Lisa McClain to our office for the Great Lakes Maritime Task Force to present her with the Great Lakes Legislator of the Year Award. While she was here, she also helped us to dedicate our newly completed dock upgrade project. Many other local officials were in attendance and the event showcased a strong Port Huron community.

Kind of a Throwback Thursday. I found these old photos hanging in the dock office at ADM Elevator in Toledo, OH. The date is 1961, our second year of existence. The facility substantially grew in the mid 1960s, after this photo. I'll have to ask our friends at Marine Historical Society of Detroit if they can dredge up more.

Reminder to waterway users that the Ford Fireworks will be in downtown Detroit tomorrow! The US side of the river will be closed from the Post Office to Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre between 6pm-midnight per USCG.
